a couple questions for the pros in this forum.

I acquired the Killap patchs to FO2 and when applied Windows 7 chokes, pukes and FO2 just quits.

I see all manner of instructions for applying these and thought I had followed them fairly specifically... but i wonder if the magic that GOG does to get the game to run in a W7 env is defeated by application of these patches...

wanted to apply the following patches:

unofficialFO2patch
F2_Restoration_Project_2.1.2b
Fallout2_High_Resolution_Patch_3.06

any advice

love this game! need help to enjoy it better

regards
Jack
Unofficial Patch is already included in Restoration Project, there's no need to install both. I suggest you uninstall everything.
I was under the impression that the restoration project included not just the unofficial patch, but also the high resolution patch as well.

Accordingly you should only have to install the restoration project.
if it aint broke, don't fix it. the game runs pretty good as GoG made it.

would love some clarification on this, i would be inclined to just run it unmodded.
but is it worth it ?

Fallout 2 is rife with bugs, but it played fine for me out of the box anyway. I didn't have any color issues like with FO1, and using a walkthrough I was able to avoid all of the nastier bugs. (Though there are still some weird glitches, like having to FAIL a speech check for T-Ray in order to convince him of something, instead of passing it like it should be.) If you've never played before, the unofficial patch is good because it removes a lot of bugs but doesn't really CHANGE anything. I would not recommend any of the other mods (except the widescreen ones if you need them) to anyone who's never played before.

The game is fine in its "vanilla" state, but it's a little rough around the edges.
I've played about 6 hours of the game, and so far no bugs.

now, i did install once a while back and there was this issue with the dark spots being wild colors, but i installed it again later, and no issues. i think gog took care of the problem.
i went ahead and installed redstoration project :)
