I know that there are several save game editors available for Fallout and Fallout 2.
I'm trying to "fix" a bug where I can't seem to access a quest (by setting the quest to complete) even though I have the "right" stats and karma.
I've tried to use the editor available here:
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46523&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

(I'm using version .5)

Unfortunately, it seems that this doesn't work with the version of the GOG Fallout 2 I installed because of the file path of the SAVEGAME folders. My SAVEGAME file are found in this path
C:\GOG Games\Fallout 2\f2_res\data\SAVEGAME

And the fallout2.cfg file is in
C:\GOG Games\Fallout 2

It seems that that particular editor only searches in Fallout 2\data\SAVEGAME... instead of the path I provided.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(can I copy the file to the "correct" folder path... and then move it back later?)

EDIT:

Apparently you can't do that "copy/ paste" thing... I get an error stating that the save game editor seems to think that the game was saved "in combat mode". Which, well, it wasn't.

Works just fine for me with GOG's Fallout 2 + killap's Restoration Project 2.2 (which should not change the folder structure).

That is not the default folder structure; see attachment.
If you have changed the folder structure yourself, either manually or because of some mod, then yeah, that will break some things.

You have somehow placed your saved game folder inside the Fallout 2 High Res (f2_res) folder. It should not be there, it should be inside the Data folder. I just downloaded that editor you mentioned, and you can change the save game location in it's options.

What's weird is that I don't remember changing the folder structure.
As far as changing the save game location, if I do that, then the application can't find the fallout2.cfg file which is necessary for operation.
Is there a way to go move my default SAVEGAME location without uninstalling and starting all new games?

It's not just your save game location that's wrong, according to your previous post. The ONLY things that should be inside the f2_res folder are:

intrface [***Folder***]
Map_Edges [***Folder***]
f2_res_change.log
f2_res_README.rtf
panels.ini

Everything else should be directly in your 'Fallout 2' folder. Try moving everything except the above back into your Fallout 2 folder. Other than that, if your folder structure is so messed up because of what happened, then you will likely have no choice but to uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks. That seems to have fixed it... well. At least allowed me to edit the SAVEGAME files.
Is there a guide or list that shows the proper display values for the Quests?

I don't understand what you mean. Could you elaborate?

So, say I want to mark the "Refuel Whiskey Bob's Still" quest. I see how to mark, the quest as something other than the default "0"... but what do I mark it as? 1 2 or 3?
And are there any other things I need to change? Or only that one number?

Are you talking about in that save game editor? If so, I only downloaded it for the first time today, and I really have no idea how it works. Hang on, let me just fire it up...

,,, Ok, this is how I THINK it works. The quest location, Klamath. The description, Refuel the Still. This will take you to the GVAR_STILL_STATUS. Underneath is marked the display threshold (1) and the completed threshold (3). This means if you type in '3' in the GVAR value box, it will mark the quest as completed. Please make a copy of you save game before you edit it, though, as like I said, I THINK that is how it works.

And doing that, that will add in the proper experience points, karma, etc?

No, I don't believe it will. That is simply manipulating a quest variable -- the pitfalls of using a save game editor. The XP, karma etc. will be handled by game scripts at the time of completion. You will lose that.

Great.
So are you saying that there's no manual way to fix that?

No sure-fire safe way. You can add most things in (if you know the amount) with that editor. XP, karma etc. Don't ask me if I know a list of all the quests and how much XP and karma you get; I don't.

I can find a list of the XP. Not sure about karma. Thanks for the point in the right direction though.

Karma is in a box on the right-hand side of the GVARS tab. GVAR_PLAYER_REPUTATION is the general karma one.
