The first time I used the blue memory module with ACE, my game completely crashed after the screen faded to black.

But every subsequent time I tried it (about 5 times now) the game didn't crash but the screen stayed blank, and the game was still running as I could hear the audio and could still interact with things, albeit blindly.

I'm stumped, and though it's not a game breaker it would be nice to be able to get the enhancements so, any suggestions appreciated!

I have the high resolution patch and unofficial patch installed.

It could be a corrupted savegame. You could try an older one and see if that works.
Which unofficial patch are you using? Killap's Unofficial Patch includes a fix for an issue that could be connected: "Fixed Brotherhood's medical computer and its stat increases if you had taken all the assault enhancements."
Don't patch your current game without making a complete backup copy before, as it could bee that your saves won't work afterwards.

Yeah it is the Killap unofficial patch, I have version 1.2.30.0 installed but I notice there has been an update for it so I will backup and try updating it then, thanks.
