I got the water chip back to the Overseer, got the 7500 exp. and the next two quests. Upon checking my inventory, however, I still have the water chip. Is this going to cause any bugs or further problems with the game?

Cool! I've never seen that.
If it does, well... sorry?
Check your pipboy, so long as the 'xxx number of days remaining' sticky note is not still there I'm guessing you will be fine.

I once encountered a bug, where I got the option of paying for a second Water Caravan from the water merchants after I had already returned the water chip to the vault. I payed for it for the esy experience, saved my game and then realised the countdown was back on my pipboy, that screwed me up ><

Lordy lordy. I didn't suggest checking that because I figured it would prove nothing, but the fact that you managed to get the countdown post-it back from the Water Caravan glitch indicates you probably have something there. Thank you.
Also, did you go forward and try to beat both end-game locations in record time, or just say '**** it' and make a new game?
I ended up reloading a previous save from several days earlier and had to repeat a few towns.

I could have probabally rushed to the end and skipped a few parts, but I'm a bit of an obsessive compulsive when it comes to my rpgs, I like to explore ever nook and cranny, and complete everything as fully as I can.

It wasnt actually that long ago, I might be able to and recreate the bug quickly from an old post waterchip quest save game, I'm curious myself now, I'd assumed the game would have ended once I hit zero days. I'll check it out later on in the evening.

It certainly should end at that point, yet now I too am curious about what the bug flags and doesn't flag.
