That's odd, it should look like in the attached screenshot. Have you any mods installed?

When the player activates the Sneak skill, there would be a indication somewhere on the bottom Heads Up Display interface that the player is in Sneak mode which is normal. What is not normal is when the player character enters a new section in the game world and the Sneak indicator disappears! Don't worry... you're still in Sneak mode, but you just cannot see any indication of being in Sneak mode. It's a toggle function that stays in the position it was left at.

To get indication that your player character is in Sneak mode, you'd have to save your current game and reload that save slot and then you should see the Sneak skill indicator.

Great computer game but the 'Sneak glitch' happens from time to time.

On a tangent; I'm very early in the game and have a Stealth Boy. I didn't think much of this until I look it up and found you're only supposed to find them in later stages. I'm wondering how I managed to acquire it! Also, how do I use it? Do I need to put it into a slot like a weapon and activate it?

Yep, but no need to activate it, effect should be immediate.
