oh so sweet, sticky! :D
Regarding the Blackout issue people are having. Would this be when say.. the "Map" button on the interface suddenly turns black and is unclickable? Because that is, more often than not, what happens from time to time. I do have Skype on in the background because it's the only way I can currently keep in touch with my fiancee' while she's with her family, so turning it off isn't a really viable option for me.
However, what I am having trouble with is a bit different. I AM getting one of those errors where the game gives you an error message, locks up, and you have to close it out forcibly. But only now that I'm in the Military Base, and for whatever reason, only on Level 2. I've been stuck there since yesterday, as soon as I finish this one battle, the combat ends. I go to move and it locks up. Any ideas? It seems to do that regardless of Skype, by the way so I don't think it's the cause.
I'm also playing Vanilla/Modless Fallout for the time being. As I was holding off on adding the patches/mods until I'd finished it once.
So i was gonna buy the game but i first wanted to know if i can play it on windows 7. some ppl say i can others say i cant, can someone let me kno?

I may be installing this evening, I'll give it a go.

DKill3r: I've got a question.
I found my old discs of Fallout and Fallout 2 again, but since I'm German the games are cut (in Fallout 2 some quests aren't even solveable because the children are not in the German version). I'll install the games now, patch them and look if I like them. If yes, I'll buy them over GOG again, because of all the extras and because they are already patched and so on. My question is now, will the games be uncut, if I buy them from GOG? Or will the games be censored like Steam does it with some games?
Edit: Oh, hi there Weclock. :D
Edit 2: Oh my...I wanted to install Fallout 1, but I can't because it says, that this Windows version (XP SP3) isn't supported by the game. :(

I'm pretty sure this is the original UK version. It doesn't matter what country you're in.
EDIT: That's...odd...I installed it on Windows XP SP3 fine. If you know how, perhaps changing compatibility modes will work? That's really odd. GOG games are supposed to support XP/Vista and soon, 7.

7 didn't want to install for me, so I'll have to try later.

Lodion: I also have the screen blacking out issue. I haven't tried anything yet, but it is hugely annoying and happens every few seconds for me. I'll try the suggestions here and post how I go.

Not really a permanent solution but when the screen starts blacking out, just open the Pipboyscreen (P) or the help screen (F1) for example and go back to the game . This should 'fix' it.

Regarding the 'black out' problem that is very common in Fallout- there is a solution! It is tried and tested and should rid you of this annoying error. The one where the game doesn't crash but the screen blacks out and you are able to 'paint' it back to normal with the cursor. Not game ending but it can happen frequently and kill the enjoyment.
Right click on desktop, click 'properties' and click 'settings' change desktop resolution to 800 by 600 pixels and colour quality to 16-bit. Then go to 'Run' type in 'msconfig' click on 'startup' and choose 'disable all'- restart and you should be rid of the problem for good! It worked for me and numerous other people, I believe the solution came from the original developers.
To be honest I wouldn't recommend trying to play the vanilla version as almost invariably it is horrifically unstable on newer systems. There are a good few game ending crashes- I fell victim to this and intend to begin aaaaaaaaall over again using this much recommended procedure which seems to be tried, tested and succesfull-

This is not my solution it comes from a 'Paul_cz' so big thanks to him! Download in the correct order as shown and make sure files are installed where they are meant to and it's the most stable version of this fantastic game.
enjoy.

The link doesn't seem to be working. I have the 3-pack version, I don't know how relevant that is.
Yeah, unfortunately the link actually doesn't work anymore sorry! So its a matter of finding and installing them all manually! A bit of a pain but it does work!
3 Pack as in the white label edition with Fallout 1 and 2 plus tactics? Yeah that's what I have but for Fallout one I now use GOGs version as it is more stable and only 3 quid.
The procedure goes as following:
1) Install Fallout 1 from GOG.com
2) Find and install "Fallout_1_TeamX_Patch_ENG_1.2w" (either via nma or just google)
3) Install "f1child_patch" (again, nma)
4) Install "fallup13" - this is the TeamX patch 1.3.4 (nma)
5) Install "f1npcmod" from TeamX (again, nma)
6) Install "sfall1" (from http://timeslip.chorrol.com/sfall.html)
7) Install "Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch_v1.3" (nma)
8) Open f1_res and set AUTO_SCRN_SIZE = 0, then your desired resolution (I use 800*600, anything above is just too darn small for my taste), then if you want, change the way ingame movies work, either fullscreen or not....up to you.Same with movie subtitles.

It is my old expired rs account.
But luckily Lodion uploaded it as seen above:
http://lodion.net/random/The_Ultimate_Fallout_Installation.rar
And this one works.
Note that it contains and old versions of some files - for example the high res patch has new version today. It does work well anyway of course.
How/where do you go about changing the screen size for step 8? I don't see where I am supposed to do that?
I have vista if that helps with helping me out.

You need to edit the f1_res.ini file - details are in the readme that comes with the patch

Thanks. I just had to look a bit harder. Now my only Q is how do you fix the rainbowed pixelation? It seems to only do it every once in a while...
also do you know how to make the pipboy screen, chat/barter screen and the bottom hud bigger to fit the screen?

This really isnt a game issue, but I got the shortcut for Fallout on my desktop, and the icon appears as some creepy dude I don't recognize... help?
