hey gog, I recently picked up Fallout 1...and I installed the mods listed at the very top of the forum....in this particular order

1. TeamX 1.2 patch
2. Children Patch
3. TeamX 1.3.4 patch
4. High resolution patch

I have a Dell U3011 30 inch monitor. Native resolution is 2560x1600. Now I go into options and adjust it to 2560x1600 8 bit color. It works fine but as soon as I adjust it to 16 bit color, it crashes and won't let me play...any thoughts on this issue?

Also, when I play at 2560x1600 and 8 bit color, the game severely lags....it feels like I'm playing at 10 frames per second. Is there a fix to this?

Please help a fellow GOGer out....this is my first title and I can't wait to try it out since I hear nothing but great things about this old classic. If all else fails, I might just uninstall the game and reinstall and play it at it's native settings

You don't need to set the bit colour to 16 bit seeing as one of the patches already contains it.

Alright, I'll just leave it at 8 bit color. Do you have a resolution to the bad performance?

Thanks

Hmm, have you tried a much smaller resolution? Like around 1280 x 800?
Using the max resolution really does reduce the visibility in-game anyway :).

EDIT.
Here's two threads that might help you:

Thanks for the links...I did quite a bit of reading before I posted my topic....and I think I'm just going to run the game "as is" with only the children patch...

The high resolution patch has too many problems....and just reading through the threads, it requires modifying it further than the patch itself....and even then, its not guaranteed to work....I'm just gonna play it safe and not go through any more headaches

EDIT: I actually found a solution, theres a new high resolution patch that is only a week old (writing as of July 5th 2011).....here is the link

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1344&sid=d6a507b1a9c0d48def9135000b634709

this actually worked for me...performance issue is gone...I can run 32bit color with no crashing...

EDIT2: I forgot to mention, you have to remove the ddraw.dll file from your fallout folder...make sure you delete that and you will have no problems running 8, 16, or 32 bit colors

You can't mark your own posts as a solution, due to exploit possiblities.

What you could do is post what fixed your problem :> might help some other people out.
I forgot to mention, you have to delete ddraw.dll to fix the issue! Make sure you delete it and you can run 8 or 16 or 32 bit color!
