Hello,

Just tryring Fallout1 from GOG.
When I ALT-TAB, i don't see any icon of the game in my task bar and can't go back to the game.
The game works fine so far... just, if i alt-tab to speak to a friend or anything... i lose the window of the game.

But, i know the game is still running, because if i close all other apps, i do get the sound back, but not the image lol.

Anybody has seen this and if yes, do you have a workaround?

thanks

Not 100% your issue is the same as the ones I've dealth with, but if you hold the alt+tab, then just let go on the tab key w/o letting go of the alt key, you can see all the open windows/programs and then select fallout that way if you have it running

I think that happens to a few games, not sure why, but Entomorph was one such game for me I think. Maybe there's a true/false setting somewhere to make it show on the taskbar normally, but I don't know of any personally.

Yeah, i tried this. Doesn't solve it sadly.
I don't even find the game in my task manager... its like it closes... but the music stays on...
But, if i re-open the game, then, i got the music twice lol

That really is strange. Only thing I can suggest is to completely uninstall it, use cc cleaner Or similar) and maybe a registry cleaner also (I use Norton Utilities for both) and then restart your computer and try a fresh install again.

Also, what OS are you using? I have it installed in Windows 7 Pro atm. I also installed it in C:\GOG Games\ folder rather than C:\Program Files folder. Some reason a few games I've installed had problems in the lhat location.

If I get the time, I'll see if I can do a quick Google and maybe get lucky in some obscure site lol.

This was discussed on reddit, not sure if you're the same poster.

I'm having the same problem but I found a solution, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the TaskManager you'll find it there, rightclick on expand and choose change to.

Chris
I hate to necro but literally every GOG game has alt tab issues.

Re-bought the games on Steam and never looked back to this garbage platform.

Nah, that's mostly just you.

I alt-tab all the time in the middle of games without issues.

Fallout 1 is from 1997. It's a miracle it runs at all, so it's somewhat flaky, so I do have use the task manager as Chris indicates above to return to the game, and note, the EXACT same problem is reported for FO1 on the Steam Forums, so it's NOT a GoG issue, it's a FO1 issue regardless of storefront:

I've played hundreds of hours of GoG FO3, FONV and now FO4.

All of them Alt-tabbing and returning without issues.

I wonder if it's a Win10/11 thing, cause I've never had that FO1 alt+tab problem on Win7. Wierd, though I may be recalling it wrong, since these days I used Fallout1in2 mod with RPU. A lot of QoL features in those mods lol.

But I concur with you that out 100's of games, I've only ever had problems with a few regarding alt+tab being an issue.

I can't recall the titles, but I think only 2 games actually crashed when I used alt+ tab. Also, like your mentioned, some games did require starting task manager to get access to the running game's minimized window.

I can't help but be amused when people spent extra cash on re-buying games on another platform and ending up with the same issue. Real head-scratcher. O_o

You may be right. I don't remember the problem when I played on Win 7. I checked it on Windows 10 and it has the issue that is widely reported.
