Ok so i recently reinstalled fallout 1 and 2 on my laptop after my old one kicked the bucket (how it did so is a different story). For some reason however, when the game launches the entire screen will remain entirely black while all the audio from the FMV openings and the main menu will play just normally, except for when the resolution is set to windowed 640X480 for some reason. I've tried just about everything i can (running both the high resolution patch version and the classic version of both games) and i have no idea what is wrong.

Try messing with the compatibility options (right click on shortcut> properties> compatibility). If it doesn't work for you, try killing explorer. How?

Open the notepad and paste the following:

taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe
fallout.exe
Start explorer.exe

Then save as FalloutFix.bat and move the .bat file inside the folder where Fallout is installed (if it contains the file fallout.exe, then it's the correct folder).

Right-click the .bat file you've just moved and make a shortcut (for your convenience).

Run the .bat file (or the shortcut you've made) and see if you're lucky!
