I know GOG staff says NVSE works, but, from what I heard, NVSE does not check the exe quite like FOSE does for Fallout 3. Combined with the changes made to the GOG exe, I must ask if NVSE actually functions properly.
No posts in this topic were marked as the solution yet. If you can help, add your reply
Did a version check in the console and seems to work just fine. Version checking JIP LN plugin also worked as expected.

You must run nvse_loader.exe directly. Doesn't work through the Galaxy client or by running the original game executable.
NVSE (and FOSE for that matter) should work fine.

Yes, they SHOULD, but more importantly, DO they work fine?

We cannot provide official support for third-party tools.
Initial checks were fine and looks in order, and that's about it.
So far, I can't get it to work no matter how I install the files, but will come back if I can.
NVSE version 5.0b2 appears to be working fine. I launched the game using nvse_loader.exe, instead of Galaxy. GetNVSEVersion returns NVSE version: 5 (if working, it shows the major version number)..
NVSE works fine except that the Galaxy Overlay will not work even when modifying the games .info file to list it as a game (Removed the launcher because that is meant to reset one of the ini files).

ENBoost also cannot use the Galaxy Overlay (Wrapper Version, Injector Version doesn't work because the game launches too fast for it to inject I presume), but otherwise works fine. Though if using Windows 10 I would wait for the DX9 VRAM fix before downloading any 16k Tumbleweed Textures.
If you want full functionality from NVSE, DO NOT LAUNCH IT THROUGH GALAXY. Use nvse_loader.exe instead.

NVSE works just fine with the overlay... You just exit Galaxy, replace FalloutNVLauncher.exe with nvse_loader.exe and restart Galaxy.

I can't comment on ENBoost as I haven't used it. I'm using YUP, New Vegas Stutter Remover, New Vegas Anti Crash, CollisionMeshesFNV, and I organized everything in FOMM. I have unlocked achievements, taken screenshots, and the overlay pops up fine, even to tell me a screenshot was taken. I'm on W7 if that makes any difference.

You just have to replace a little bit of text for NVSE to work fine through Galaxy.

Is there something I'm missing?

That is weird... If I set the info file to FalloutNV.exe and launch it shows the overlay but if I set it to nvse_loader.exe then it doesn't display it. Is your catagory section in the .info file (where your nvse_loader.exe section is) set to game or launcher?

ENBoost is pretty much essential for playing modded bethesda games as it allows you to offload textures to your RAM instead of hitting the game's 32bit 4GB memory pool. (If people are using this on Win 8 and above, you will need to wait for the 4GB ram allocation fix from MS for Win 10)

Aha, I see the difference between you and I. I replace the *launcher* just under playTasks, and you replace the actual game exe. My file:

"playTasks": [
{
"category": "launcher",
"isPrimary": true,
"languages": [
"*"
],
"name": "Fallout: New Vegas",
"path": "nvse_loader.exe",
"runAsAdmin": true,
"type": "FileTask"
},
{
"category": "game",
"isHidden": true,
"languages": [
"*"
],
"name": "Fallout: New Vegas",
"path": "FalloutNV.exe",
"type": "FileTask"
}
etc.

So when I press play I don't have the game's normal launcher come up at all, it just goes straight into the game.

So the only thing I did to the file was replace FalloutNVLauncher.exe with nvse_loader.exe. Didn't touch categories or anything. It doesn't matter if FalloutNV.exe is there or not because it never reaches that. When you click play, it executes the "launcher" (because isPrimary is true, I bet).

Sorry for asking this question here, but for some reason I cannot make a new thread. I'm playing the game for the first time and it has a lot of stutter (my specs are overkill for this game; i5 6600, gtx1060, 8gb ram, win 10).

I'm planning on modding the game to at least fix the stutter issue, but I'm unsure if I should just follow the install instructions for both NSVE and the Stutter fix mod as they are in their respective download pages since they assume one is playing the steam version. Is anything required other than that ?

Are there other basic mods I should be using to fix performance issues?

I recommend following the following tweaks / mods listed in these sections of this guide:

INI Tweaks and Extenders (Including ENBoost and Excluding thr 4GB Patch as that is not needed) http://wiki.step-project.com/User:EssArrBee/FalloutNewVegas#.22We_are_all_wired_into_a_survival_trip_now.22[/url]

ENBoost will help with stutters as well as allowing you to run the game in borderless windowed mode which prevents crashes and improves stability. Not only that but it also offloads textures to a 64bit memory pool (if you exceed your VRAM) allowing you to use the 4GB for scripts and the rest of the game.

Because you are on Windows 10 you will need to wait for the DX9 Memory Allocation Bug fix to be deployed on Windows 10, otherwise you can only use 4GB of VRAM even if your GPU has more than that.

Fixes (This includes AntiCrash patch, and NVStutterRemover) http://wiki.step-project.com/User:EssArrBee/FalloutNewVegas#Fixes

Leave out the OPTIONAL file for Unofficial Patch Plus, unless you intend on using Project Nevada; still grab the MAIN file though.

Thank you for the suggestions and links. Before your reply I got impatient and installed NVSE and NVSR, which work without issue, and the game is now much smoother (still not perfectly smooth, though, but I guess that is too much to ask of a Bethesda game).

I'll definitely try the other mods and fixes you listed. I appreciate it.
