glassedsilver: GOG should be a bit more transparent about this...
Navagon: I kind of agree, but I'm guessing that they can't be without a lot of agro from Bethesda over the fact that both versions are identical.
In that case, drop the game from GOG's catalogue.
I'm here to get a no BS experience, so if a publisher can't stand a label clearly marking that a) I got that game already and b) I got a better version and that others who don't have the game are told about the substantial changes as well, I don't really feel too comfortable anymore about the other things I'm shopping.
GTA San Andreas on Steam comes to mind...
Or Crazy Taxi... wow, where's all the cool music that I remember rocking out to?
Yea, somewhere it might be hidden in a long text, but I'm sick and tired of this hunting for every single detail for every single game I'm getting.
My Steam library is almost 600 games strong, I have hundreds of physical games, I have nearly 100 games in GOG already and then there's all those non-Steam/GOG digital games I have from elsewhere (freeware, purchases made elsewhere, etc) - I'm a collector and I'm very willing to spend a good portion of my income on games, but I don't want to basically "work for free" in my free time to find out a) if I'm getting shafted and b) why and c) to which extend.
I've always enjoyed GOG's approach about being fair about global pricing, apparently mostly avoiding censored versions of games - either you can buy it or you can't, a simple and fair approach instead of Steam forcing adult gamers into the ominous "German version" if you happen to be, well German, as I am.
To see this softening up is irritating at best and worrying at least, because now I know that apparently I have to do the good old "Do I get shafted here" dance too and that's especially upsetting as I actually wanted to make GOG my go-to store for digital games on PC (or digital games in general as I avoid digital-only on consoles like the plague)
If Bethesda (or Activision who now own Bethesda) forced GOG in their contract to be this shady or otherwise the deal is bust then this also reflects very poorly on Bethesda.
Now, I doubt we'll ever hear the truth, because as with every "niche complaint", there is no pressure and GOG could just fly away with just a minority of the users ever having heard about this whilst they rock out to the good vibes of "hey, look we're the good guys with the all-optional Galaxy client" and they'd be right to rock out to that, but I'd really feel more comfortable about all this if I saw that this is a one-off slip up and ideally picked up by GOG.
Not holding my breath though I have to admit.
