I can open the .dmg, then copy "fallout" into "applications", but when I launch the game, the resolution change from 16/9 to 4/3, the screen becomes black, , then the game quit.

Could Anybody Help ?

Yeah me too. I find that I can get it to start if I click the mouse button when the cursor firsts appears when it's starting.
Well, the mouse becomes a black cross but it stills quit after a while… Thanks anyway !

I've got the same problem for Fallout 2 …
Fallout tactics is working however.

Any ideas ?
I get the error " 'Fallout' is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.". I re-downloaded the .dmg for Fallout 1 and still got the same error message.

For fallout 2 I had the same problem with the game crashing to a black screen. I downloaded an X11 environment (XQuartz) and have no more issues. You can get it at . .. xquartz (dot) macosforge (dot) org (slash) landing

Anyone find a fix for the Fallout 1 problem?

Edit: If anyone is having the dmg error I mentioned about Fallout 1, use the GOG Downloader to download the game. No issues at the moment with the game anymore.

I downloaded XQuartz too but it's still not working. Do I have to do something with XQuartz ?

Install the Hi Res Patch.
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1441
- You can simply open the Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch_4.1.5.exe with a file decompression software like 7zip
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (there's also a Mac version).
- Extract the content of the file into your Fallout installation (right-click the app and show package contents, browse to drive_c/GOG Games/Fallout)

Now install the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable (msvcp60.dll) for the patch to work
- A save way to get the DLL would be downloading Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9183
- Open the file with a decompression software and extract vcredist.exe
- Now open vcredist.exe with the same software and extract msvcp60.dll
- Put msvcp60.dll in .wine/drive_c/windows/system

- Run f1_res_Config.exe within your Wine-Wrapper to patch the game's executable

No it doesn't exist for OSX, but Fallout on Mac is the Windows version running in Wine. Therefore download the Windows version of the Hi-Res patch and extract its content using a decompression software like 7zip or whateever you've installed on your Mac. I can confirm that 7zip is able to extract files from the Hi Res Patch installer (which is a Windows .exe-file)
Extract the content into the Fallout folder. Then run f1_res_Config.exe with Wine and don't forget to add msvcp60.dll like written in the post above.

I've managed to extract all the files using "the unachirver", put them in every place you told me, put the hi res patch in fallout (using show package contents right), but the same thing happen when I open Fallout.
However you told me to run f1_res_Config.exe with wine. Which wine, the one in fallout contents or do I Have do download wine ?

Thanks a lot for your help anyway !
Do you get any error message?

You can configure the Hi-Res patch manually by editing the f1_res.ini file.

Set the preferred resolution manually (SCR_WIDTH= and SCR_HEIGHT=) and/or check the scaler setting, as it defines the minimum resolution for fullscreen. If it's on (SCALE_2X=1) and your resolution is to small, you'll probably get an error.

It's also worthwhile checking the different graphic modes on your system (GRAPHICS_MODE=).

Example:

[MAIN]

; Set GRAPHICS_MODE=0 to enable Basic mode which supports resolution change only(required for sfalls Graphic modes).
; Set GRAPHICS_MODE=1 to enable Direct Draw 7 mode.
; Set GRAPHICS_MODE=2 to enable DirectX9 mode.
GRAPHICS_MODE=0

; Set SCALE_2X=1 to scale the game x2.
; Note: This will increase the minimum resolution from 640x480 to 1280x960.
SCALE_2X=1

; Set the Fullscreen resolution here.
SCR_WIDTH=1680
SCR_HEIGHT=1050

(try using your desktop resolution here)

For testing, you can also try enabling windowed mode:
; Set WINDOWED=1 to enable windowed mode.
WINDOWED=1

No error messages. Nothing change from all you told, still getting the same thing I explained before. Maybe i misplaced the hi res patch ? Or maybe it is because of the retina screen ?

Maybe you did something wrong, installing the Hi-Res patch and/or msvcp60.dll and/or XQuartz.

The patch does work that way, look at these threads:
http://www.gog.com/forum/fallout_series/os_x_mavericks_high_resolution_patch_problem
http://www.gog.com/forum/fallout_series/a_couple_issues

You could also try the common Mac troubleshoot advice from GOG support:
1) Download and install the latest updates for your Mac:
System Preferences -> Software Update -> Check Now.

2) Make sure that Accessibility options are enabled (the installer would have prompted you to do so, but please check it):
System Preferences -> Accessibility -> [check] Enable access for assistive devices.

3) Copy the game from the DMG file to the Applications folder again - in case it got corrupted. If that doesn't help, check if the game works when you launch it directly from the DMG file (just double-click instead of dragging the game to the Applications folder).

4) Finally, create a new user account, restart your Mac and log onto that new account. Now, try installing and playing the game. This will allow you to launch the game without most third-party applications that may have caused issues.
To create a new account, go to System Preferences - Users & Groups.
