I'm wondering if many of you are anticipating Fallout Online (for those that don't know: http://www.fallout-on-line.com/).

The beta form has been up for such a long time now. I loved Fallout 1 so much (probably my most favourite game), liked Fallout 2 a lot as well. I highly anticipated Fallout 3, but when it was released and I realised it was just a sandbox I was truely dissapointed.

For that same reason I will not be playing Fallout New Vegas even though I heard it is somewhat better. However, I am high anticipating Fallout Online. It seems an MMORPG could really set the true Fallout atmosphere once again.

loved the first two, hated 3 and new vegas(because the feeling is the same as in F3). Though im glad interplay is making a new fallout i detest MMOs. Will try it out but im not expecting to enjoy it really.

Yeah! I just wish they'd release more info and/or screenshots about it instead of a site that just lets you sign up and then takes you to the forums. I'm also wondering if it'll be F2P or freemium since other MMO's have had a lot of success that way.

I like MMO's (such as DDO, LOTRO) that let you determine how much you want to pay. After all, I don't spend every minute playing games, so I don't like to pay a recurring fee.

I hate to say it but no i will not be anticipating fallout mmo, or any other fps. They only require reflexes and even the fat people in our country have them which is kind of funny. I admit the original fallout is prally one of the hardest games i have played but i still would prefer turn based to fps. It requires thought and planning while the other requires an an ability to sit in a room for 5 years without speaking to anyone. Maybe its mean of me to say that but they still shouldnt have made fallout 3 a fps. It deserves better.

Why does everyone insist that turn-based means tactical and clever? Guess what, it doesn't. Original Fallouts were as tactical as clicking on evil and clicking on eyes, repeat until everyone is dead. In New Vegas, I get out of sticky situations using actual tactics, like shooting weapons out of hands of my opponents or crippling their legs to slow down the fast ones. Or confusing robots to shoot OTHER robots. Or just using right ammunition for the right situation, which never really worked in original Fallouts. Playing the game on reflexes seems like a suicide to me, enemies maneuver and dodge as much as they can: so you're stuck with VATS anyhow, and that's based on in-game character skill, luck and action points... Sort of like original Fallouts I'd almost say.

I've played the 3rd fallout and you are right there are some tactics to it. I still believe though that they should have kept it in the overhead view. Even some people that didnt like the turnbased and wanted real time-they made a demo of what would have been fallout 3. Van buren i think it was. The game would have been awesome. Im just a big fan of overhead view because you can see everyone and it is easier to navigate. One of the reasons i cant play halo and most fps type games is mostly because the skill lies in who can shoot first. There is skill to it, but i dont believe as much skill as some of those turnbased games.

Im playing jagged alliance right now and every move that i make can either hinder me or allow me to gain some small bit of advantage. That was how original fallout 1 and 2 were. I used to play fps all the time. Perfect dark and goldeneye were among my favorites. But eventually they just got boring to me. Thats why i prefered original fallout to the new one. Thats all.

You know what other game was kind of luck of the draw like jagged alliance, baldurs gate 1 or 2. You could be the greatest fighter in the world of bg2, yet if the mage doesnt get disabled in a few rounds, you are toast. The reverse can be said about the 1st game-you could be the greatest fighter, have the best stats, decked out with a twohanded sword + 3-just try and solo sarevok up close and you wont last more than a few rounds.I tried replaying the game a little while ago and even after 5 years of knowing the game, i still had to retry at least 5 times. They are just plain old tough to play, which is why i play them.

Sorry, but Fallout and Fallout 2 are just fine as RPGs. Fallout Tactics is what you want.

Did anyone see that fallout 3 just got rpg of the year by gamebanshee. Such bullshit. Its a shooter, not a rpg. Dins curse should have won.

In the older Fallouts, if you crippled an enemy's arm they'd be unable to use two-handed weapons. Crippling both and they're unable to use any weapons at all. To be honest, the F3/NV idea of using a pistol to shoot a minigun out of someone's hands is pretty comical. I'd say certain things should be there, like shooting the fuel tank of a flamethrower. You could also shoot their legs to slow them down. Shooting their eyes lowered their accuracy too. F3 and NV didn't invent any of that. I'm not sure about confusing the robots but I do know there are several times where you can hack into them and make them attack allies or ignore you.

To be honest, not that F1 or F2 had great AI, but the biggest strategy in F3 and FNV is to just let the AI shit in its pants and run in circles or get stuck against scenery. I was fighting Nightkin earlier and they kept running at me, then away again, then at me, then away again. I could have killed them by flicking plastic forks at them, it was ridiculous.

I will admit, FNV is actually good once you get some way into it, and most of its faults seem to be the Gamebryo engine (i.e. the Oblivion engine) rather than anything specific to the game. F3 was pretty poor in all areas, though. The plot was silly (you can purify irradiated water with soil and pebbles, you don't need some miracle machine), didn't really offer you much control over who you side with and was poorly written. Many of the so-called "intelligent" replies - things you can only say with a high INT stat - were merely repeating what the other guy said back to them, like "I want to kill the geckos!"...."So you want to kill the geckos, huh?" Well damn, that's just the epitome of insightfulness!

Loved Fallout 1 & 2, was highly sceptical about FO:Tactics, but I'm playing it now and finding it fun.
Hated FO3, then decided to try it anyway and loved it to bits as well!
Some things are not there, some things are bad, some things are just wonderful.
Haven't tried Vegas yet, but I will soon enough.

As for FO-on-ine, I'm very, very sceptical we'll ever see it.
Even if we do, I'm sceptical it'll be anything worth playing,
but I'll be sure to try it out given the chance..

I have a feeling that most of the folks that hate the newer Fallout games didn't really give them a chance. The whole reason VATS is in the game is so that you don't have to be an expert at shooters to play it. I almost never do any of the shooting myself in FO3 and New Vegas, and I even -like- shooters.

You're also really missing out by not playing New Vegas. A lot of the story and quests from New Vegas are from Van Buren, what was going to be Interplay's Fallout 3. There are lots of references to Fallout 1 and 2, the NCR is a major player in the story, there's even a few old characters that make cameos.

Edit: Forgot to add that I will totally play FOOL if it comes out, but I have pretty low hopes that it's actually going to happen given the legal situation.
