there is an annoying graphical glitch i am getting. thick white outlines. i am on windows 7.
help appreciated.

ah right seems it was removed. i tried the resolution mod. i changed the resolution in the .ini file to 1680x1050 but that just made the screen tiny.

Are you sure they didn't just move it? It's pretty major feature after all.
You could try lowest available widescreen resolution instead. This way graphics should not be distorted.

Hello folks.
I'm with the same problem (weird colors).
I use win 7, and when i change the graphics mode to 4, i get this error (attached image).
Please help me.

Aparently some other folk seem to have run into same problem with Win7 in NMA forums as well. I'll post about it so hopefully timeslip or someone else in NMA can figure it out. You did download the latest sfall (the one that comes with killaps patch/restoration project is ancient and may not work with win7)?
In the meantime, could you provide more information of your system (graphic card, processor, do you have latest drivers etc.) and Fallout 2 installation (have you installed other mods, did you install inside program files folder) to help with troubleshooting?
You may want to contact GOG support to make them aware of the problem as well.

Ok, got a reply from timeslip. He pointed me to his list of common sfall problems and their solutions in interplay forums.
Here's the one's that may apply to you:
On startup, fallout crashes with a 'Failure initializing input devices' error.
In ddraw.ini, in the [input] section, change BackgroundKeyboard to 1 and see if that fixes the error. If it doesn't change BackgroundMouse to 1 too.
Black screens/psychedelic colour schemes.
Both problems can happen without sfall, (especially on vista/win7,) but sfall can make them happen on occasion when they wouldn't otherwise. To fix it, in the [Graphics] section of ddraw.ini change Mode to 4 or 5.
Random in game crashes with compatibility mode turned on, or you get an error message about fallout running in compatibility mode on startup
sfall doesn't play nicely with any compatibility mode settings. Turn them all off. Sometimes sfall will pick up on compatibility mode settings and display an error on startup instead of getting in game for a bit before crashing out. If you're on vista/win7 and get the 'you are trying to run fallout in compatibility mode' message even if you aren't in compatibility mode, you'll have to update sfall.
Important note for vista/win7 users
Something else I forgot to mention; since the ddraw.ini you need to modify is in the fallout folder, if you've installed fallout to its default install directory in programs files you wont be able to edit it. (Seriously, don't install pre-vista software to program files, especially any games. They always ends up biting you in the face.) If you try, you might get an error when you try and save, or it might appear to save successfully but no changes will show up in game. (Or, if you have the correct magic combination of run-as-admin flags, it might work, but it's risky.) Rather than editing ddraw.ini where it is, copy it to your users folder, edit it there and then copy it back.

I get it to work! :D
I was having problem because when i changed the mode to 4 (in ddraw), i was getting this error message:
"Failure initializing input devices"
But then, i remember playing Fallout 2 in Vista without problems, so why not try start game in compatibility mode?
And it worked! Now i don't have crazy colors anymore!

Well you get it by downloading sfall and exracting it to your fallout 2 directoryy. Other ways you may get it is to install either Killap's Unofficial Patch or Restoration Project but sfall coming them is not up to date (it's obviously the sfall version available at time of their release). They should still work however.
For Fallout 1 you may have to look for solutions posted in other topics as while I still host sfall for fallout 1 (downloads -> fallout -> sfall1.7z <- you need 7zip to exract it, just google 7zip) it's ancient and has not been supported for near 3 years now so graphic options are not likely to work.

In case anyone else has problems with those annoying graphical color issues, this link will help solve those problems without having to edit any of the files on your computer. You won't even need to download the hi-res patch.
