dinopron: I just finished the game and ... Christ ... this game could have been perfect. With realist and likable characters, well told story, excellent dialog, remarkable music, everything... but at the end all start to crumble! Too much elements are introduced too fast out of nowhere, old chosen one cliche, ridiculous kung fu fights, don't take me wrong, I love kung fu movies but I didn't buy a fighting game I bought a investigation/thriller adventure with a few occultism elements. The story was so good and suddenly it seems an Uwe Boll movie (Alone in the Dark comes to my mind) This was what pissed me off: -- The Invisible, a homeless people secret society. -- The artificial intelligence world domination clan. -- The Illuminati (orange clan) acting behind the curtains to control the world. -- The unnecessary and inexplicable romance between Carla and Lucas. -- The Dragonball/Matrix fighting sequences. -- The implicit alien conspiracy. -- The undead frozen Lucas havin sex (and consequently a child) with Carla (For God sake the man was dead!) -- Lucas trusting in a bunch of crazy homeless with AKs and shotguns, and giving Jade to them without questioning if he could trust them. -- The teletubies happy ending scenery, I almost saw the chubby-baby-sun. -- How Agatha, being an artificial intelligence, could manipulate Lucas' mind. Of course they had an super advanced technology that they've been developing since the 80's, without anyone suspecting. Man how I hate this purple clan crap, 50% of my rage are caused directly by this IA bullshit. -- I won't complain about the Maian bizarre plot because its well tied in the story, but I should. The fact is, I really loved this game, and that's why I am so upset, this game made me love it but gave me a slap in the face at the end, several actually. My advice for everyone in doubt about this game is: Buy it, its awesome, if you really like games you should experience this game, but don't fall in love, because its gonna break your heart at the end, in the bad sense.
What about the fact that they worked on bonus stuff before fixing those problems, like david cage dancing with women in swimsuits

What if they didn't see them as problems, because they were intended to be like that, therefore wouldn't need fixing? (Conspiracies, conspiracies everywhere...) I'm not saying everything is perfect in this game, but it's primarily the players' opinion and not necessarily the developers'.

But I mean all that minigame stuff like dancing and basketball, they should have scrapped that and made more murder and investigation levels

Personally I loved those parts too, they helped to establish that the characters had a life to lead, not just work. Also they were just a bunch of QTEs with a few different animations, I don't think it was a really hard or long work to finish those.
Honestly, I liked the ending except for one thing: We never find out what happens to Tyler or Markus. Tyler is forgivable, but didn't they think we would want to know what happened to Markus? He was a priest, but then he found out reincarnation was real. What does he do after that? Does he quit his job? Does he go on being a priest and telling what he now knows is not true? Does he teach the people at the church that reincarnation is real? What happened? Seriously, I want to know.

Which ending did you get? The changes at the end are rather serious.
I think Markus either quit or only become a stronger believer in his faith ("God was testing him with the reincarnation stuff.")
I got the good ending. Sorry for not saying that earlier.
So I'm downloading this and hoping to play it through again, originally played years ago on Xbox. I remember getting Tiffany to stay the night my first play-through, and trying to make sure to cover all my tracks after the murder. The branching options and the way you could play with everything was really cool. Pretty sure I stopped playing for a while, just before the reincarnation stuff, where it starts going really crazy. Never minded the QTEs too much, thought there are a bit too many, or even how crazy the story actually gets (even the out of nowhere ending). My biggest problem was that the first half does a pretty good job of telling the story, then it suddenly feels like you've missed a whole section of the game. All of a sudden you're saving the Indigo child, which from what I remember was only loosely even mentioned before this, and of course becoming soul mates with the person hunting you.

It really is too bad what became of the second half or so of the game, because the next best mystery style game I've seen since is LA Noire, but no supernatural stuff there. Until some damn zombie DLC comes out I guess :\

Though, I guess I should try Heavy Rain, it just didn't look as interesting from the videos I've seen. Anyway, there's my tuppence.

You should definitely try Heavy Rain, I feel it's better than Fahrenheit in every aspect (especially in character development and story), and a truly memorable, heart-gripping experience. It doesn't contain any supernatural stuff either, though.
If you are looking for a really cultic game and doesn't mind the VERY outdated (=downright ugly) graphics, try Deadly Premonition. THE most memorable, unique serial killer-themed mystery/horror game I've ever played. It's not for anyone, though, the plot is quite bizarre at some places and the controls can be awkward - but if you liked Twin Peaks, you'll love this.
Well I watch a lot of LPs and watched the entire Deadly Premonition one, never expecting to play it, but after the end I had to order a copy. I actually watched Twin Peaks after seeing this and the Alan Wake videos, since they kept mentioning references to it I figured I better see that. Even after seeing everything I still had a lot of fun playing that, so yeah it was basically right up my alley. Not sure why I didn't think of it in mystery/detective terms though, I guess because the plot is fairly linear even though it lets you go at your own pace. (Kinda hated that I couldn't save Emily, that kinda stuff)

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, I probably will pick up Heavy Rain at some point, just to see how I like it.

Hahaha this is the best description of Fahrenheit ever!!! :)
From what I read back in the day, the problem was that this game was supposed to be a TRILOGY. It was signed on with a publisher (forget who), but the publisher died or started cutting back financially and the game got dropped halfway through development.

Quantic Dreams shopped it around, and eventually Atari offered to publish it... but only a single game. Given the difficulties in getting Fahrenheit released, it was ultimately decided to hypercompress the needed info from the 2nd and 3rd games into the last half of the game, resulting in the jarring shift in story and theme late into Act 2, and why the "twist" ending came hard out of left field in Act III (it's also why the PC and Carla were suddenly so close).

Basically, Quantic felt it better to give us a rushed game with a complete story, than a well-paced game that ended with a bunch of loose ends that would never get resolved.

Ultimately, it was a hard choice to make, and I applaud them for doing what they did.

OlausPetrus: - Considering that game puts some effort to explore Lucas' relationship with Tiffany, he seems to care very little about her death and jumps right into the next relationship. Sure some time has passed between the chapters and we don't know what happened to them between the chapters, but romance between Carla and Lucas feels bit odd.

cich: This is what pissed me off to no end. I loved the game. I took in and accepted all the crazy out-of-nowhere plot points, I grew to like the characters, but god almighty, what the hell happened to Carla?! She jumps in bed with this zombie god? It's extremely cold everywhere and she decides that her last night on earth she is going to spend with a COLD dead person?
On my last night on earth, I would probably try to have sex, too. Now if you have got the choice between the hobos, the priest not being a likely option, and the undead superhuman, what would you do? Try out something new!

OK, you're right, the whole ending is totally absurd. I just finished it, and I believe they could have stuck with just the mayans, maybe the old alien contact thing between ancient cultures and such, and it would have been better. Nothing very surprising, but not so completly crazy and stupid.

What nobody mentioned here, is there an explanation for the giant lice crawling out of nowhere? Who sent them, and why bugs? Please don't tell me it was a lame pun at computer bugs sent by the megalomaniac AI.

I'd go for the priest! That's something new too! :D
