This game seems extremely interesting, but I have 2 issues with the game right now.

Firstly, as soon as I first installed the game, I decided to install the update. The update kept freezing. So I uninstalled the game (I never started the game so there was no folder in the My Games folder in My Documents) and installed again, this time turning on the game to the main menu, quitting, and trying the patch again. The problem still persisted.

I decided to just play the game without the patch then. It was working fine at first. I was about to get to my first non-tutorial battle in the ruins, choosing to attack at day time instead of waiting till dusk. I am NOT exaggerating right now. After like 5 minutes of loading, I decided to quit the game and try again. Now, it still says it's loading. This has been going on for almost 40 minutes now! I was playing in windowed mode if that helps. At first I thought it was a crash, but it doesn't look like it. The loading wheel is spinning, and the pictures and tips on the bottom periodically change. So it is loading, or at least trying to. Was this error fixed with the patch? If so then what I can do to install it? At least, I hope this is a problem that that patch can fix.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

I'd try to uninstall the game and also delete the game's folder ("\Expeditions - Conquistador\" if it's still there,
Then rename the "Expeditions - Conquistador" folder in My Documents.
Reinstall and make sure to install the patch with administrator rights.

I pretty much did that except not removing/renaming the folder the first time since that folder wasn't there, but I might as well try again. I did it again, following all your steps, and the same thing happens.

Hm, what's wrong with those new titles and their patches lately, every third makes things worse instead of better!

What operating system do you use, maybe it's one of Windows 8.1 incompatibility issues. Try to run the installer, the patch and the game in compatibility mode and with administrator rights. (This implies another uninstallation I'm affraid)

And to be sure all folders were created, run the game once before applying the patch.

I do have windows 7, not 8.1 but I thought that might have been a good idea. I tried compatibility with XP, and made sure that all 3 instances of it were under it and ran as an administrator. And it still happened.

I also should mention that it takes quite a long time for the main setup to start. The setup itself is quick though.

This looks like a timeout. The setup is waiting for something. Installers often try to telephone home or connect to a trusted platform (to let Windows verify that it's a trustworthy program). If networking is blocked somehow, it can come to halts, until a timeout happens and the setup continues. I'd go offline by removing the cable or turning of the wifi adapter, so that Windows has no functioning network connection. Now turn off all anti-virus software, firewalls and security suites and (hurray) un- and re-install the game.

Yep that solution worked.

It took quite a long time for the patch to install but in the end it did. I was able to load that ruins battle as well, so it seems like the patch fixed that issue. Thank you!
Very good, you're welcome!

I had this happen when i reinstalled as well. Not sure if renaming the folder or pulling the network cable did it, but the update work. Which begs the question. Is it a problem with the patch itself, or the way GOG packaged it? Update shouldnt even attempt to make an external connection anyway???
Loading times are reduced by 1/3 on my rig after adding the game directory to the exceptions in my Avira Anti Virus program.
Oh, and I'm talking about Expeditions Viking.
Did not expect this forum is for both.
