Hi!
After spending 20+ hours with the game so far, I started wondering if there are or will be unique items (AKA named or one-of-a-kind) in the game at some point.
When I think of looter games, most of the ones that I've played have had something like that, and it has always pushed players to explore/grind to get something cool, not just in terms of stat min-maxing, but to get that "special something" that the item offers. (Even ships with unique looks would be great)
It may be sometimes bound to RNG and sometimes be a guaranteed reward for a difficult task.
The prime example for this would be the Borderlands series, at least in terms of the sheer variety of items and effects. (Of course, that's basically because their entire philosophy is revolved around the loot, which might not be exactly the case for Everspace 2, and rightfully so).
Although in most cases the unique - or "legendary" - items may end up outperforming the regular items, there are definitely ways to balance it, and I think it would be a great addition to the loot system that you already have in place, and that it would offer more possibilities in terms of builds and future content (and modding? :) ).
Anyway I've been enjoying the game a lot so far, keep it up!
