ValamirCleaver: I am in total agreement with this response. I checked this thread again because it was marked as solved when the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed.

Found this thread by accident. If anyone still cares, this problem is easily solved by deleting winmm.dll; or download the modified dlls from this thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/354430/discussions/0/490123938438643804/

the ancient version of winmm.dll bundled with EU1 does not work in Windows 10.

This post should be stickied because by using the DLLs from the link EU1 works fine on Windows 10.
I am happy to confirm that this works on Windows 10 for me as well. I found that I firstly had to run the game executable file outside the GOG Galaxy interface to initialize the settings. After that the game will launch flawlessly from within Galaxy. I am grateful for the persistent community support on this issue. Great work guys!

Got rid of windmm.dll and then clicked on the icon. Worked for me. I hope it's normal for there to be no sound when clicking on things on the main menu. Otherwise, I might need to get those modified dlls.

Does anyone have another link to the fixed dll? The link has been removed from that thread.

Having the same problem. I've tried the files in this post: https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_xwing_and_tie_fighter_series/new_winmmdll_fix_remastered_edition_on_windows_10

But that didn't work either.
I have managed to start the game with the following settings - no modified dll needed:

Windows XP Service Pack 3
Fullscreen disabled

I used the win 10 build in "problem solver" - sorry I don't know the english word for it. But as far as I can tell it works.
For me it worked with these settings on Win 10 x64

-run as administrator
-compatibility mode windows xp (service pack 2)

Tried it - no good

Added fullscreen disabled - game runs great

Win 10 Nvidia card
Solution running win 10 where black screen appears when running europa.exe:

When europa.exe starts it plays Paradox.avi and Europa.avi. My win 10 could not play those avi's and screen went black (codec issue?). After replacing them with an avi that plays in win 10, the game works. No music though.

-go to AVI folder. Rename all four files (fx add -old)
-find an avi file that win 10 can play. Copy that file to AVI folder four times and rename to original names above.
-add to europa.exe: run as administrator, compatibility mode windows xp (service pack 3), fullscreen disabled
-run europa.exe

I tried all of your options, but the game still doesn't run for me... It plays the videos and then it crashes...
