Tallima: It's hard to find well-made games like this. Although more of a AA game, I think Divinity: Original Sin might scratch the itch.
I found Heretic Kingdoms and Divine Divinity to be quite exceptional and with a somewhat similar feel, but they don't have turn-based combat.
I'll think on it some more, but I think you've found some of the best of the indie turn-based RPGs already.
madmomagain: thank you so much. i appreciate the info and i will try them.
A few more:
Upcoming: Wasteland 2 (here's a Steam link:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/240760/ )
My favorite turn-based RPG combat gameplay is Temple of Elemental Evil. It's light on story but very, very thick on tactics.
http://www.gog.com/game/the_temple_of_elemental_evil I own them, but never played them. But I hear Fallout is turn-based with a lovely story. I need to play those games!
And a few more that aren't turn-based, but still have the feel of Eschalon and/or Spiderweb's:
The Elder Scrolls 1 and 2 (free on Bethesda's website). They are real-time, but they're huge (hundreds of times bigger than Skyrim, but less populated with cool things to do), open-world and tough as nails. For some reason, these have a "feel" like the Eschalon games for being big and difficult. But they're very different, too. But they're free, so you can decide for yourself on them free of cost but time.
And lastly, if you like story-heavy games and pause-and-play real-time but taking turns combat in the D&D world, then I'd recommend Neverwinter Nights. There's a million great modules with very excellent stories and characters.
