I have come across several combination locks in Book II (one in a destroyed temple and 3 in the thieves guild so far) that I THINK (key word is THINK) I have the combination to, or at least I have some reasonable guesses considering info I found near each of the chests, but I have no way of "moving" the numbers. The numbers just stay at 0000. I've tried clicking on them, right clicking on them (which wastes mana because it ends up casting whatever spell I have readied), arrow keys, and number keys. Nothing. Nada.

How the hell do you put in a number for the combination?

It's a while since I played this, so I can't be sure, but have you tried this?:
- Hover the pointer over a digit and then press and hold down the left mouse button.
- Move the mouse up or down to slide the number up or down.
- Repeat for other digits.

I'll try right now. THANK YOU!

Nope, nothing. Tried holding down the middle mouse button too. Tried holding down the left mouse button and simultaneously press arrow keys. Tried arrow keys. Tried number keys. Tried every letter key on the keyboard. LOL, I think I've literally tried everything there is to try, which now leads me to believe there's something "wrong" with either my copy of eschalon or my particular hardware setup because nothing is working.

At first, with the first chest, I thought maybe the numbers would "automatically" fill in once you "found" them, and that perhaps my guess was wrong. In this case, the first chest I found was in a destroyed temple, and near the temple was a sign with a four digit number on it (as the year it was founded or something or other) and so that was my guess. In the thieves guild there are three rooms with three different chests in them and I found a table in another room with illegible writing on it but three four digit numbers written in the margins so those would be my guesses.

But it doesn't "automatically" enter them and I can't seem to enter them manually.

So frustrating. I need me some treasure!!!! I'm broke, hungry, and my equipment is badly in need of repair!!!!

ADDED IN EDIT: DOH, I forgot to mark this as a question again. Dammit, my bad. Rep just doesn't mean anything to me, but I "get" that it does to others so I wish I could give the five points every time someone helps, but I just forgot again. Sorry. I will +1 all replies in here though. And again, sorry for forgetting. AGAIN.

If you mean the silver chests then, above and below the four zero numbers is a dark brown arrow.
Just left click the arrow...up arrow starts the numbers at 1, down arrow at 9 (this is just for speed) so you don't need to cycle through all 9 numbers.....once four numbers are in the chest opens or not..if you are wrong.

Been a while since i played it....so ignore if way off track.

Oh jeebus, I'm an idiot. I never even noticed those. I swear I've stared at that box for literally hours over the past couple of days trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and never noticed them. What. An. Idiot. My bad.

THANK YOU SO MUCH though for telling me. The gods know I probably would've started another several hours and missed it. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

Now, on to the guild of thieves!!!!
Glad you got an answer. My memory of this must have got mixed up with another game I've played recently. As you get older the memories of all those lock puzzles just seem to melt together!

It's a Goblin Shaman thing: mind melt spell (I got it too) :)
