So I've been wanting to play this apparently awesome game, but it seems EECH won't recognize the hat switch on the controller. Is there some way I can get the game to recognize it? It reads the joystick in the preference screen, but only the stick axis and built-in throttles. Is there a file I can edit or something, or will I have to try using ppjoy or some other controller configuration software? If it helps, I have the Allmods mod installed. Thank you for your help in advance.

I know this is an old topic, but I have the exact same joystick and the hat works even though I don't assign it to anything within EECH. My config:

Cyclic yaw = X axis
Cyclic pitch = Y axis
Pedal = Z rotation
Throttle = Slider

All others are default.

Even though the POV hat is not assigned to anything, if I use it my pilot will look around as expected... I use Win 7, 64 bits, EECH with allmods v. 1.13 (latest). No extra tweaks.
The game automatically disables the POV hat if mouse look is enabled, so just turn off mouse look and the hat should work. Mouse button 3 (typically clicking the wheel) will enable/disable mouse look in-game.
