I'm getting a joystick soon to play this game and in the meantime wanted to see if my Xbox 360 controller would work. The game recognizes it as a device in the options, and in game I can use the d-pad to look around the cockpit. However nothing else seems to work. Anyone know hot to get the controller working or if it can work at all?

You have to assign the axis in the options menu.

I recommend using XBCD as your driver as it allows you a supreme level of control over how the joystick functions, allowing you to even reprogram the various axes to whatever you want. This allows you to alter the functionality of Xbox 360 joysticks on a driver level very easily. I use this for my HORI RAP EX-SE to remap the stick which is normally tied to the D-Pad on Xbox drivers to the actual X/Y axis and vice versa to maintain compatibility with other joysticks. Trust me whan I say the level of control this driver gives you is nothing short of profoud :

I want to ask one thing, if you have a Joystick you still have to remap the controller the same way? Like using third party programs or whatever. Or is there any difference?

Well I would assume you are also using the latest all mods patch. At the least, it means I can play in 1440p.

With a Logitech Extreme 3D pro, without any software (no logitech crappy drivers either, just default windows)Have to assign the axes in game settings
- I assigned throttle to the slider, can assign collective but I did not like that. also click reverse on this.
hat and buttons 1-4 are automatic (see section 3.18 of manual)
other buttons do not do anything - I would also assume there is a work around for various joysticks but not looking for that just yet.
