I know there's supposed to be a Linux native release along with the Windows one, but do we have any idea on when? Eager to play this and don't really want to run on Proton.

I've read that their Mac version is coming next week, so probably Linux will follow soon or at the same time.

Thanks. Well, if I'm too impatient I'll just try Proton. :)

I've been running it in plain wine for a year and a half now, no problems. In fact, since it uses FMOD for audio, I expect the Linux version, if it comes, will not work well on my system. Every Linux game I have that uses FMOD screws up its audio in new and exciting ways.

Linux gaming is dead. "Just Use Proton™" killed it. Why bother with Linux version when you can sell Windows version instead without any effort?

Bonus points for not having any responsibility for errors/bugs encountered by gamers on an unsupported system. :)

Of course, this game is a Kickstarter project and Linux was promised explicitly. But that did not stop 505Games from screwing Linux with "Bloodscammed", or IcePick Lodge -- with "Pathologic 2". :( Or many others.

Kickstarter promise weights nothing.

If anything, advancements in Wine/DXVK/Vulkan/Proton gave a new shot at life to Linux gaming, not killed it, but that's a long debate.

So far I saw no evidence of that. My "Just Use Proton™" bookmark folder is quite lively, meanwhile.

But back on topic. I've reached the developers on Discord and got unofficial confirmation that the Linux version is being worked on right now and they were hoping to release on day-1, but did not quite make it. Still no ETA, but they promised an official announcement "when it is ready". Hopefully soon.

Mac is not forgotten. Linux will be first, but a Mac version is soon to follow.

Is this is going to be another Divinity Original Sin where they'll delay Linux release for a year without a word about it, I wonder... communication is key, devs.

Then they will visit all available gamedev events and conferences and try to convince others that "There are no sales on Linux, so it is better to just not bother".

The worst part, I've met some "Linux users" who were totally OK playing with WINE (yes, I've inquired, they paid for a Windows version on release).

Encased.exe is the ELF, but Encased's developer(s) like that extension. LOL.
Waiting for Happy New Year Encaseds and "Just Use Proton™" linucsusers. ;))
I'd be interested in finding out about this, as well. Even though I don't currently use Linux, it doesn't mean I won't.

Come to think about this… We do not have any confirmation the executable is an ELF. What was shown is the game screen.

They are fooling us: launched the Windows version in WINE without desktop emulation, but failed to notice the extension on the taskbar. Native Linux Unity3D titles have "*.x86_64" extensions, not "*.exe".

This looks like a scam.

Well, he can't lie. )
In the development update video #16 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSMvolpEFAc), they mention that a linux release will come at the same time as the new (third) content patch. They estimate (in the video) that this will be mid January.

Oh boi, that's good to hear!
Was it just added and then removed again?
