Hello all, I just bought the game, but there are only four races to choose from in the skirmish mode, and I could have sworn there were more in the game when it came out back in the early 2000's. Was wondering why I'm only able to choose from four.

Nvm I figured it out, selecting a different starting age will give you different races. I only wish the graphics were improved.

I experienced same issue at first. Sadly while the game was good in areas, I thought it lacked compared to brother game Empire Earth 1.

From Medieval to Imperial Age, only 4 civs are available: Korea, China, England and the Franks.
From WW1 to WW2 however, Britain, France, USA, Germany and Russia are available (I think).

But if you want to use the scenario editor and play it as a scenario, you can make some Japanese troops (Samurai and Mounted Samurai) trainable through Korea. Just re-name player 1 civ as Japan, disallow some of the obvious Korean troops like Hwarang, Fire Cart and Koryo Spearman etc and allow Samurai and Mounted Samurai, and well.. Technically you're playing Japan as a scenario. ;)

Couldn't figure out how to get the Samurai Spearman and Ashigaru available though, but the Samurai and Mounted Samurai can be easily obtained like this. But I haven't tried making them playable for a random map though.
I wish people would find out how to mod this game, like they're doing with EE, then maybe new civilizations and units (either new units or old units with different textures) could be added into the game.
