First, I have to say that I was very happy to see that GoG got EE:Gold. I bought EE and EE:Gold at retail years ago. It is my favorite RTS ever. I've been waiting for it to go on sale at GoG, but I'm about to break down and buy it again to play without DRM. Having to have the disk mounted is annoying. Anyway, on to my question.
I can play EE with no problem. However, after I play EE:AoC for a few hours, all of a sudden, there is a sharp, brief sound like static and the game locks. I have to hard boot to recover. This problem has occurred for years, over different video cards and software and driver updates. Has anyone else had this problem with either the retail or GoG versions?
Thanks.

I never experianced it with the retail version, infact never had any real trouble with the game at all. I was running it on a windows xp machine with a fx5200 graphics card and then a 6800 ultra, creative sb live sound card.
I too have had the lockup issue with EE:AoC. I'm using a quadcore CPU, and simply setting the affinity for the game to only one of the cores fixed it for me IIRC.

Interesting. I'm running an old P4 Hyperthreading CPU. I'll try setting it to run on a "single" CPU.
BTW, are you running the GoG version of EE:AoC?

Yes I do. I will do more testing when I'm back from xmas/new year celebrations and report it here if you wish.
