this is driving me nuts....im trying to do the ray contract mission...but ray, who im helping...just stands there and lets everyone kill me.

ive died like 8 times in the past 15 mins all because ray doesnt help.....he follows me...his weapon is raised....but he never EVER fights back.

what am i missing here?

im also using the drone controll ability...and my drone doesnt do anything either.

i dont get it.

I feel your pain. The Companion AI in Elex is horrendous.

The rest of the game is awesome though.

yeah...i WAS enjoying this game...but now im not enjoying it at all.

im stuck...i cant go anywhere or do anything because i cant fight. im only level 5...and now all the missions require me to go out into the world where even the smallest weakest creatures are far stronger than i am. my low level means i cant equip any decent armor or weapons (a stupid restriction ive always hated in rpgs).

and to add insult to injury...my companion who is clearly far far better equiped than i am...just stands there doing nothing to help.

i seriously cant progress. its been over an hour since i recieved any xp for anything and ive died over 20 times. this game forces you into combat without giving you the tools to fight anything. theres no other way to accomplish goals (at least not these goals).

if youre going to make me too weak to fight...at least offer other paths to complete missions.
Thats why u grab "one man army" perk and play solo :)

I blame gog.com who cant add damn day 1 patch that fixes most of your concerns.... They released base game and sold for full price and patching isnt even existent in this retarded galaxy client....

There was an update that happened just a couple of minutes ago, no patchnotes, but if it's the same update as the one on Steam, then it fixes the "Companion doesn't attack" problem.
hm even with this 1.1 patch the problems it fixes i had no problem with the 1.0 version. only some minor things... weird huh?

Same here
Companions in 1.0 worked for me.
Companions are retarded and usually not very helpful. You cannot rely on them.

They go down quickly when even moderately powerful enemies focus on them, they only attack once every 10 seconds or so and they're far too slow to realize combat is happening.

---

In just about any Piranha Bytes game, the first segment is dedicated to familiarizing yourself with the map and doing lots and lots of quests. You can't kill anything early on so you should focus on doing quest as much as possible. (I have to say though, the quests sure do bring you through a lot of dangerous monster-infested areas... I guess that's what your jetpack is for).

Good luck.

EDIT: I didn't even consider that a patch might have changed things. No idea.

Well even early on you get quests that are way to difficelt you sometimes have to kill stuff that is totally skull to ya... and the thing about that fucking lock when you draw ya melee wepon is fucking annoiying when you have multitude enemy's at ya. yes i know you can click 1 of the buttons to let the lock go away but mostly going suddenly against a group you dont really have the time for that... yes i must still look in options that i can maybe turn it off... can you?
I think, I've faced such problem, especially with Ray. It's really annoying, but in my case it was fixed with higher level of loyalty. So, it might be inaccurate, but I've decided that higher loyalty means more crazy staff able your companions do -- even to attack their own faction.

Don't know about drone control -- used it once in mid-game: it sucks, forgot about it.

In general, companion's AI really sucks, but Du... berserker-guy (forget his name) was really helpfull in early game -- he done much more damage then myself, so I used him as a damager, while I was trying to dodge. He rocked! Now I use U4, because he don't lose any time for switching melee/ranged, which is timesaver.

Yeah, I still haven't figured out how you're supposed to fight groups yet. (Despite that I can fight night shades, chimeras and trolls... barely, anyway)

(Though yeah I know about releasing lock-on with the X button)

I ve already played 40h and can say: Ray is dumbest motherfucker, he helps you only when you hit an enemy, but he s dealing nice damage. Other companions are better. For example, Caja attacks when the enemy is nearby.
So in your situation just hit an enemy 1 time and roll back, Ray will help you but for a short time, soon he will forget about fight.

well it seems they have put in there personality into the fights because ray isnt really a fighter and that girly is a fighter :) and so on :P
after the patch companions are better. theyre still mostly useless, but at least they sometimes fight back now.

with ray it seems the best tactic is to jetpack to some high ground and fire one arrow at an enemy.....hell then start to shoot at them and you can save ammo.

which leads me to another stupid design choice that always bothers me in games. why do i have to scrounge for arrows...but the enemy has an unlimmeted supply? ALSO why doesnt the enemy ever drop the weapon/ammo/armor theyre using????

that last one is super anoying and imersion breaking. terrible design choice.

In earlier PB games enemies always dropped whatever weapon they were using (and ammo if they used a ranged weapon). I don't know why they're going more mainstream with generic throwaway loot, I liked it better before.
