I have a DualShock 4 v2 controller, so I tried using it with Oblivion (on Windows 7) just for the heck of it.

Requires DS4Windows, DS4Windows Virtual Bus Driver and XBox drivers.
Get them here:
https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases

Works fine (Oblivion will detect it as a joystick)., except the right stick seemed non-responsive.
A little search revealed that it actually does work, but the default values are too low so it seems non-responsive in-game.
Apply this easy tweak and it will work:

Defaults in Oblivion.ini:
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

Better values:
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.5500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.5500

If too sensitive, go with 0.3500, if not sensitive enough, go with 0.7500 or so.

Note: do not remap the default directional controls for the joystick.

Anyway, DualShock 4 v2 works as intended, but I ended up with using the mouse and the keyboard because it felt awkward. ;-)

I hope this will help someone.

Unfortunate news here as well, played with controller first time through and loved it. Also looking for more controller supported games in general.

OP, have you checked out the vertical mice? It changes the orientation of your wrist, helps a bit with my twinge pains. Won't pretend it's as responsive given a lifetime of learning the other mouse style, but they actually aren't too bad.

Edit: just saw recent posts linking to apparently perfectly working mods for controllers. Bless the modern era.

I swore about a month ago when I first picked up a wired Xbox 360 controller to use for Kingdom Come Deliverance on PC which I also tried playing the Fallout series games and TES games with it and Oblivion operated just fine with the controller even in controller options I thought it had Xbox listed in the key mappings but that could be wrong. Regardless I was able to fully use the controller without adding anything or adjusting the key mappings and now after revisiting Oblivion a month later I am running into all the problems everyone else is describing. Did GOG have this game listed with controller support and then within the month remove it?

DarthCrunchus: Firstly, let's get this out of the way right now:

I use a controller in preference to keyboard and mouse because I have dyspraxia. My wrists tire quite easily, and it is far easier for me to use a controller than to use a keyboard and mouse despite the lauded superiority of it. This is a single player game, anyway, so what does it matter how I play it?

My wrists are already becoming quite fatigued, just typing this, so, please, no "Why would you want to play with a controller" comments; if you have to ask, you obviously haven't read my explanation, which I shouldn't even have to explain, therefore, you have no business replying to this inquiry.

Now that I've gotten past that, the title mostly outlines my query; How can I play Oblivion with a controller for a more or less console-like experience? The game itself touts Xbox controller support, but I have yet to see this actually function. I have a physical release of the game, too, but again, no dice on the controller support. And I have even tried it with the recommended Xbox 360 wired controller for Windows, to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

As a secondary query, is there anyone who migh know how to allow for the same control option on say, Morrowind?
I usually add the game to my steam library and use the controller mapping there as it’s quite simple to do, I map my controller to the DualShock 4 pattern and then look at the ps3/Xbox and pc controls so I can change each button to correspond to a different key used in the game so it matches the console versions perfectly.
Just to follow up, does this game support Xboxone controller natively? or still need a mod to use?

You need a mod. It technically has controller support, but using it is just ass. I doubt we'll get decent gamepad support unless they do a remake or a remaster.
