so i bought morrowind again on gog after 150 hours of playtime on steam and probably 20 of it was steam overwriting files and me having to fix the game, anyway so i used the offline launcher because i couldnt bother with launchers at the time and re-modded the game code patch blah blah and everything worked and i also read through the pdf manual which was really cool thanks gog, and for some reason whenever i launch the game steam still thinks im playing it through the steam launcher and i dont really want that multiple separate installs and steam is still recognizing the game even though i dont want it to because for some reason i have the weird fear that steam will track down my morrowind folder and delete files. does anyone know how to not have steam drm?

couldnt send a screenshot of my load order it says wrong file format sorry i'll try again later

ps : sorry if i'm incoherrent i'm very tired

The Morrowind Code Patch assumes that only the Steam version exists, using it on any other version (CD/DVD or GOG) will convert that version to the Steam version.

I haven't found anything, but I also haven't spent much time looking for something.

Are you sure? I've been using the MCP for ages (and with the GOG version) without noticing anything. The MCP readme says it's compatible with Steam and
"If you have the Steam version, MCP will redate your BSAs automatically when the patch is applied. This allows replacer mods to work correctly without the work of redating manually."
but I haven't seen anything about implementing Steam DRM.

I played around with modding Morrowind last week and every single time I used MCP the game went from launching to requiring Steam running.
it only launches when i put the steamappid, txt file in the root of the morrowind folder or else i get good ol application load erro9r 5:0000065434

It happens only in association with modding? Well, I use mods (together with MCP v2.4), but haven't used the Construction Set for years.
Nor do I have any steam*.* files in any Morrowind folder.
just ran the code patch on a fresh morrowind install and it didnt require steam, for some reason i feel like the cause is in data files

im gonna do some really careful modding on this fresh install and see what happens

Yeah...it's absolutely not true that the MCP requires Steam or puts DRM into Morrowind. It's been ages since I ran the GOG version of MW, but I had zero problems installing the MCP with it. Hell, I used the MCP with the disc version of MW, back before I even owned the Steam version.

The MCP's only requirements are a non-cracked version of the game, as it modifies the Morrowind.exe. I think it only works with certain language versions of the game as well.
fellas i have fixed it and i dont know how, made a fresh install and did the same thing i did before and it worked fine apart from the classic fresh install crashes that fade away after a while

Perhaps the following quote from the MCP readme may lead to an explanation:
"If you have multiple installs of Morrowind, please note that the launcher always runs the exe from the last installed directory (but with the settings from the correct directory). You should run Morrowind.exe directly in this case."

With respect to compatibility, this is what the readme (v2.4) says:
"This patch is tested and compatible with MWSE, MWE, MGE and FPS Optimizer 1.96. It is not compatible with FPS Optimizer 2.0.
This patch should support French, German, Italian, Polish and Russian editions. ...
This patch should also support the Steam edition, as long as Steam make no further changes to the program. ..."
