I love alchemy. Oblivion holds a special place in my heart as it was the first game (to my knowledge) to allow the creation of poisons.
In an attempt to create my old favourite Mage Fire poison from my youth, I stumbled upon this little gem

With some Harrada, Spiddal Stick, some Milk Thistle Seeds, and a fist full of Vampire Dust, I created a poison that paralyses, damages both health and magicka, does frost damage, and finally adds a Silence debuff.
I'm quite proud over it and wanted to share.

Have you come up with some awesome potion or poison in Oblivion?

My favorite thing to do with a potion is rather basic: Make a potions of Restore Magicka (other effects aren't that important). For a spell caster, such a potion is quite handy, as it significantly increases your Magicka regen, and it works even if you have the Atronach birthsign. Don't forget that you can drink multiple potions for an even bigger benefit.

Fortify Luck potions aren't *too* hard to make, and they are also useful for casters as they reduce the cost of your spells. It turns out that fighters also benefit, as it improves both weapon damage and (if you're wearing armor) defense. Try Fortify Luck + Restore Magicka for a potion that allows you to cast

Also, I belive that if you drink 4 maximum strength Restore Health potions, you can, as long as the potions are all in effect, swim in lava and not lose health (I believe lava does 50 damage per second, and each Restore Health gives back 13 per second).

I tend to prefer potions that don't have many ingredients, and one nice two ingredient potion for mages is Flax Seeds + Bog Beacn Asco Cap, which gives you both Shield (so that you don't take too much damage without wearing armor) and Restore Magicka; at max skill and apparatus, two of these potions are enough to reach the armor cap while being able to spam Destruction magic without running out of Magicka.

It's been quite a long time since I last dived into alchemy in Oblivion... I really like the system though and I can remember that, back in my early days, I was always wondering how Sinderion could brew the Elexir of Exploration from only Nirnroot, since it comes solely with negative effects. :D

I think he uses other more common ingredients as well. Or he's just conning us for Nirnroot. *Shrugs*

Wow, I was searching on Poison combos for my character that i tewaked to try everthiing out... this is the only thread i found.

I wanted one that had Silence + Paralyze, while something like Dmg Speed would be excellent too and toss in Dmg Health.
So I mixed: Harrada + Rot Scale + Black Tar + Peony Seeds

Ideally I would have something that damaged Endurance too or in lieu of Health, but the onl ingredients that do that did not combine to have altogether 4 negative effects. I actually do not know how to get to 5 effects, keeping the first 3 that I wanted.

I called it "Lasting Nightmare". I plan to put it (or some variant) on an enchanted bow with something like Weakness to Poison and Drain/Dmg Speed for a few sec which means same as Paralysys.

What do you intend to gain from doing Endurance damage? According to UESP, damaging an NPC's Endurance will not actually affect their Health, so there's little point in doing so.

Personally, if you want to play around with damage effects and can't easily get them on poisons, I would just recommend using the console to add one of the Damage Attribute spells to your character and using the spellmaking (or enchanting) alter to make more. Note that, even if you do acquire this effect, it has a very high base cost, si it isn't as easy to damage an enemy's stat to 0 as it is in Morrowind.

Actually, no it's not actually the same thing as paralysis. I believe an enemy with 0 speed can:
* Still move, albeit slowy.
* Still attack.

On the other hand lowering an NPC's strength to 0 might be more useful, as it will stop the enemy's movement (due to the enemy being over-encumbered), but still not the enemy's attacks and spells (though melee attacks will do less damage).

Paralyze actually causes knockdown and prevents all actions except drinking potions and (IIRC) changing equipment. (I believe that even 1 second paralyze forces the enemy to take a moment to get back up, which is good (when you're the one using the attack, not when you're the victim) because this effect has a high base cost.)

Thanks for the clarification on Endurance and Health. The reason I did not choose Str is that I cannot know what and how much an enemy is carrying. I honestly thought reducning speed to 0 (if possible) meant the target could not move at all.

I don't know if anyone saw this, didn't find any old threads on it... but some combinations render you a 6-effect poison!

Messing with this:

Morning Glory Root Pulp 000A792F

Judging from the effects you listed, that only feels like a 5 effect potion as I don't see a 45 point burden effect actually mattering to NPCs. (The player character, on the other hand, might be weighed down close to capacity, and *then* a 45 point burden might be enough to put them over capacity.)

You may be right, I have no idea how to know if foes may suffer from Burden or not... Gonna keep trying coz I was really surprised to see this combo.

NPC are affected by burden but it's not really a danger to them since they are very light on equipment. Most success I've had are on heavy armour bandits.
