Hello!

So I went through a huge chunk of the game including the expansions before tackling the main quest. Something like 30 hours ago game-time I created an enchanted ring that would do Open 100 on target and Telekinesis for 12 seconds on self so I could just equip it and double tap to open chests.

After using that ring once, it seemed to break the game and give me a constant-effect telekinesis. Didn't think it was a big deal until I went to collect Moon And Star. I cannot get the name of the object to appear when pointing at it, and there's no way to pick it up. I have a feeling this unintended breaking of Telekinesis wrecked my game. Not only that, if I add the item via the console, it won't trigger the quest dialogues.

Any insight? Is my game borked? Should I just go straight to Oblivion?
You can also add quest stages via command.

This problem may be caused by something else. I think I had it myself a couple of years ago, and it had definitely nothing to do with telekinesis (which I don't use).
I never found out why it happened, but I "solved" it by reloading an earlier savegame. I don't remember how old it was and how much of the game I had to repeat, but it wasn't too much, an hour at most I'd say, as I'm not the most patient person. Of course, if you don't have a suitable savegame, you may be out of luck.
Be this as it may, Mondkalb's suggestion sounds reasonable.

Both Morrowind and Oblivion can get you into situations like the one you describe (very rarely according to my experience, but it can happen). The best precaution is to save regularly, at least once per hour, say (depending on how much of your progress you are willing to repeat, if things go wrong), and to keep a number of savegames - you'll never know how far you have to go back. I spent hundreds of hours with Morrowind and Oblivion over the years, and ran into at most five of those game-breaking problems (both games together), and could "resolve" all of them by reloading an older savegame.
I think you might have encountered what's known as the "soul trap glitch", which happens when you mix on target effects with other effects (or with on target with a different radius).

Yes, this is indeed the "soul trap" glitch. It happens when you have on self and on target and your on target part doesn't find a target. You may have been out of range once, for example, and that would make the self spell permanent.

Try: player->removespelleffect telekinesis

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm trying fragonard's suggestion for removing the soul trap glitch, but is the syntax correct? I got an error message. So I cast a Jump spell, tried to remove it, got the same error message.

Edit: Got it to work by using quotes around the spell. No luck. I looked up the console commands, and used removeeffects correctly with the correct effect number, but still no luck. I can still pick up objects as far away as the horizon, and Moon And Star is still broken.
