I haven't tried it yet but people report that it works.
For example:
http://www.gog.com/forum/elder_scrolls_series/mgso_30_display_confusion

If you've never tried MGSO before, you should also take a look at my thread:
http://www.gog.com/forum/elder_scrolls_series/morrowind_essentials_important_fixes_wellknown_mods_and_projects/?search=mgso

I posted a link to MGSO patches there. You should use one of the two patches because you're constantly going to see exclamation marks in-game where there should be a specific table. :)

How are you trying to add it to Morrowind?
Were you able to install MGSO yet? How did you install it?

(If you're game crashes that most likely indicates that there is something wrong with your "load order". MGSO should contain a program that automatically sorts your load order.)
Edit: Sorry, that can't be the reason because if it were an issue with your load order the game would crash before giving you the option to start a new game.

Edit 2: Wait a minute: what do you mean by "crashes"? Does it crash to the deskop or does the screen simply remain black?
Because the latter is completely fine. Starting a new game with MGSO installed takes a little while. :)

Edit 3:
http://www.ornitocopter.net/mo_wiki/index.php?title=FAQs

Morrowind stops working when I launch it, when I start a new game or when I load a savegame

This crash happens only when using MGE XE and only with some configurations. The only thing you can do to fix this is to disable the internal MWSE. To do that follow these steps:

Run MGEXEgui.exe (you can find it in your MW folder).
Navigate to the In-game tab.
Check "Disable internal MWSE" and close the program.

PRO TIP: By disabling MWSE you won't be able to use any MWSE-related mod (if you don't know what this means you should be fine). Please remember that using an older version of MGE (such as revision 186) solves this crash without having to disable the internal MWSE.
Edit 4:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2304568
" Go to the installation directory (../Steam/steamapps/common/morrowind). Check "Run this program as an administrator" in properties for both Morrowind.exe and Morrowind Launcher.exe.

Right click on the Morrowind installation folder, click on Properties -> Security -> Edit..... choose the Users group at the top, and check the allow full control checkmark. Apply. (This step may or may not be neccesary).

Run Morrowind once and exit.

Run MGSO20Installer.exe as administrator. Follow the prompts.

Cross your fingers and run the game. "

I hope this helps.
You should describe more in detail what's your problem . :)

Brilliant 0Grapher...I had to disable the internal MWSE,now works perfectly,Thanks so much for your help, its people like you that makes these and other forums a better place..cheers and best regards Adger
I can't get MGSO to install. It hangs at the "Morrowind Code Patch" stage every time.

I click 'Launch Code Patch', the code patch window loads and my mouse is stuck.

If I ctrl-alt-del and open Task Manager, I can then use the Morrowind Code Patch window and it appears to work, but the MGSO installer stays stuck on that page. Googling about has found lots of other people with the problem, but no fixes that have worked.

Any ideas?

(Windows 10 64 bit, game is installed in default GOG location.)

Have you tried running MGSO in compatibility mode Win 7 or something?
DId you execute MGSO in your Morrowind folder?
Is your Morrowind folder by any chance in the Program Files directory? (It shouldn't be of course)
Have you set the MGSO installer to run as administrator?

How long have you waited when MCP started up? - MGSO automatically makes most settings for you and captures your mouse to do so. In MCP you should get a pop-up message that tells you that you should choose the options you want yourself, if I remember correctly. Did you get that message?

Yes, didn't help.
Yup.
Yes, but reinstalling elsewhere didn't change things.
Yes.

I let it sit there for an hour. The mouse never moved. No, I never got that pop-up.

I wonder if it's an issue with Win 10 but if so probably more people would have that problem.

A lot of the assorted posts I've seen with the same problem predate Windows 10, so I doubt that's it. They all seem to be 64 bit Windows, though.

I'm going to redownload the mod from another mirror. A corrupted file doesn't seem terribly likely, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Edit: Redownloading actually did fix it.

I get as far as the launcher phase of the installation, where it starts trying to go to elderscrolls.com and then does nothing. As the installation is automated for this part there is nothing I can do about it or even skip this step. I launched Morrowind anyway and played it very briefly and it seemed to work even though the install did not complete fully! If its stable down the line with further playing I don't know though.

You mean the part where your launcher is started up once so that your graphics settings can be set?
I am not entirely sure why it would want to go to elderscrolls.com - that's really strange. Have you ever tried starting the launcher and setting your graphics before running the MGSO installer?
I guess that's what its trying to do? Its automated and the installer reads something along the lines of: "Now need to start the launcher to adjust settings to avoid errors in the future"

The mouse then goes to the elderscrolls.com and then nothing happens... I can't influence the installer as soon as I take control it messes with the installation and closes it down.

The game seems to run ok and appears to have the overhauled graphics running ok so I might just leave it, I have yet to play it extensively as I only run it for five minutes to test if it will work. I have never adjusted the settings so whatever the default configuration is that's what its set at.

It did ask me to configure some graphics settings at a earlier point in the install as well as configuring how detailed I wanted the game set at... It stops at about 75% way through I would guess.

To clarify its the 14th step: Morrowind Launcher
where it tries to go to elderscrolls.com
