that's what I did in the screenshot like 90% of the screen is a black border and it didnt used to do this when the game came out on gog
I replied because you said you pressed ctrl+enter. Sorry, if this was meant to be alt+enter.

To get a normally sized display, open the dosbox_battlespire.conf file in the Battlespire folder, search the line
output=overlay
and replace it by
output=ddraw.
Save the file.

This should do it. You will probably see black side borders - I haven't found a way to get rid of them. The reason is that the native Battlespire resolution is 4:3, while you'll have something like 16:9 or 16:10, I suppose. On a 4:3 monitor, there wouldn't be black borders. Sometimes you can fix the black borders in DOSBox by setting "aspect=false", but this setting exists in the dosbox_battlespire.conf file already (you may check it yourself by scrolling down to the "aspect" line).
