Hi

Can someone tell me if the English translation of Edna&Harvey is good?
I've finished Deponia and I liked it, so how does Edna&Harvey compare to it?
I haven't played the games in the original German but from what I played of the English versions I can tell you that the translation appears sound. I haven't witnessed any odd or awkward turns of phrase. There were some minor spelling errors in the subtitles but I am not 100% sure on that.
I only played the german translation and watched a few english clips.

One thing I can tell you, a dialogue between Aluman and Edna has been mistranslated.
While Alu tells Edna to come up with a less obvious plan to escape friom the asylum, the english translation made him say that she should come up with a less far-fetched idea.

Another point is how Adrian became king of the asylum. The english version made him win a game of Yatzee.
The german original is more hilarious, there they played "Topfschlagen". It's a child's game, where one or more participants get blindfolded and receive a long wooden spoon. The goal is, to find a pot, which has been turned upside down and is hidden somewhere in the room. An adult gives the child some help by telling him/her how close s/he is by saying "warmer" and "colder". Though the inhabitants probably hadn't instructions. You win if you hit the pot with your spoon.
Now imagine five or six adults crawling on the floor, blinded, in search of a pot at the same time. Now compare this to five or six adults playing Yatzee.

So, it's save to assume the english translation isn't as close to the original script at some points.

Also, the english voice actors don't sound like they have much fun, unlike the original dub. But maybe that's just me.
to add to this question... is harvey's new eyes dubbed or just subbed? This release seems to have come out of nowhere.

Harvey' New Eyes uses English voice actors so no dubbing :D

I played it with English subtitles on due to being slightly hard of hearing.

Is it possible to play both games with original German voice-over and English subtitles?

The Breakout: German language and German subtitles. Same thing with English. No mix and match on this one, sorry :(

Harvery's New Eyes: Same as The Breakout but with three languages (English, Russian, and German)

No problem. Sorry it took a little while :D
I dug around a little bit, and it looks like the script and audio files for Breakout are not encrypted in any way, so it's possible to make the game use German voices and English text (or vice versa). What you need to do is open "<game directory>\data\speech_en.jar" and "<game directory>\data\speech_de.jar" with an archive program (I recommend 7-zip, but WinRAR or similar should also work) and copy all of the files inside the German one (speech_de.jar) into the English one (speech_en.jar). (Note! Make sure to backup the files before editing them!)

There are some extra/missing files, so there might be leftover English bits, and I didn't do much testing so there might be some crashes somewhere, but everything seemed to work fine, and if there are any crashes you should be able to swap back to the default files just for long enough to get past any problem areas.

Unfortunately the files from Harvey's New Eyes seem to be either compressed in a non-standard manner or encrypted, so I have no idea how to edit them.

It's okay. I understand you also have other things to do ;).

Thanks, Matt! Puchased immediately & It works like a charm. If I encounter some crashes, I'll investigate files more closely and update this post.
I never played these in German (I don't speak it!), but have played well into the English version Harvey's New Eyes, and so far, so good. Very funny most of the time, if a bit overly-deviant in parts, as I'm sure it is supposed to be. I only noticed one instance in which the subtitles for one character were still written in German while the voice was in English. Translation seems fine.
