Wow.. i really didnt expected a game that would "throw" me out of chair. This game is classic! How i never knew about this game? Oh yeah, i saw they only "recent;y" translated genesis into english - BIG shame on them for doing it so late!

Anyway.. so im playing this amazing game, and got some questions.. Might as well keep throwing some questions in same thread so over time it will contain nice Faq.

1. Non serious question.. why i never heard about this game? gamespot doesnt have this game review, so is ign...
2. Why they didnt translated this game into english sooner?
3. Why this forum is so empty? Games is above average even looking from negative perspective..

Alright lets get some real question..

1. Ive been leveling warrior and i hit level 10. I picked "Dark knight" class. After i checked, it wrote: Max warrior/necromancer skills are only up to 3!
So im thinking, did i lost some skills? I may had constitution level 4 or armor master level 4(before i picked "dark knight" class. I dont remember but in any case, would that reduce the skill player has? Anyone tested this?

2. Anywhere is readme or some standart .pdf with more information on the basics of the game? (ive been watching some "dedmihai" vods on twitch. Thats where i fuond out about this awesome game!

3. Lets say i play as warrior(beggining of game) and take few spearman to help me. Do i get full experience from all battle if i kill only last enemy? (all enemy died from spearman, and my spearman died from enemies)

More questions will follow later..

Will answer serious questions first.

1. NO you did NOT lose anything. You see upto level 10 you can only level up any skill to level 3. The only way to take a skill from level 3 upto level 4/5 is to go the "Pure" Class route, meaning to stick with your own class skills and NOT trying to add one of the others. This is good a lot of times because levels 4 and 5 usually add the same or more than levels 1-3. Check it out on the Hero screen u can get to by pressing letter G when you have selected your hero.

2. NO there is not a readme. However there is a fan made site in russian that you can use with google translator
HERE

3. Sadly no. While you do get some exp just from being in the battle, more exp is given based on how active a unit has been and if they have landed the killing blow on an enemy.

Working on other questions now.

1&2. The main reason you never heard about this game is the same reason that it wasn't translated to english and that's because it was a FAN made game made by one guy who spoke russian and NOT by a game developer. Snowbird studio bought the rights for the game from the guy and set to work translating and making a second game.

3. This site is not so active because most of the fans of the game are russian and on their own site. For those like us well the reason is mainly from lack of exposure. Not to mention they do not have a working demo in english.

2. "They"... This is one-man project, Bokulev made this game mostly alone with some paid help on artist/composer side. Not quite sure about dates, but snowbird showed on the scene 2-3 years later after release.
3. "One more turn" and I will make post, I promise!

Real answers:
1. You can't level skills past 3 before level 10. And can't level them past 3 on multiclasses. Sometimes this outweighs by class specific bonuses or different unit/magic slots, sometimes don't.

Wtf this game is made by one guy? That guy must be genious. I personally take this game equal to homm3 and that says a lot! Short first impression so far:

1. UI - good, practical, even a big beautiful
2. Music and sounds - not annoying, meets the fantasy art and gameplay style. Soft ambience is even beautiful.
3. Art/graphics - distinctive mobs, areas! (cant say the same about Eador:Motbw angry already on them for taking same homm5 style)
4. Mini events and exploring them with heroes are Just soo much needed! Gives even more depths to the game.
5. Warrior - solo destroyer? Must be balanced(right?) but no dev would make such a dare move and make it work!
6. That subclass at lvl10 is another great feat!

Overall.. game is mindblowing from the start! Already recommended to my friends!

I just wanted to mention a few things here.

5. Yes the Warrior is very overpowered in a lot of situations however they do have one major downside and that is they are very vulnerable to Poison attacks and to being web'd by spiders. Also in general they are noticably a lot weaker to magic attackers although since most magic attackers have very low HP it is quite balanced.

6. Yes the subclasses are quite good although they are quite confusing as the 2 class mixes have different names depending on which you started with. For instance a Commander that goes multi with Warrior skills becomes a General and beefs up the troops Defense. But a Warrior that multi's Commander skills is a Holy Knight>Paladin and beefs himself up only. The others classes can be even more confusing.

Hey seeing as you come from HoMM3 like me I was wondering what you think about some of the first impressions this game gave you compared to mine. Don't have to read the whole thread just mainly those first points if you could.

Building very powerful solo heroes was possible in HOMM4 too. Ironically, that game was bashed by heroes fans for allowing heroes to be fighting units. Similar to HOMM4, Eador also has balance problems due to this, like the Archer hero being able to doubleshot-instakill many enemy heroes.

The downside to the warrior mentioned by Loynis can be reduced to a large extent by getting the mobility skill and/or the resistance boosting one. Personally I tend to go with Mobility: it's useful against any ranged attackers (and melee ones with the charge ability, to a lesser extent), while IIRC the other thing that comes with Resistance is the double edged sword of Initiative.

I am actually one of the ppl that was upset by the balance of HOMM4. But Eador is nowhere as bad. You see Magic Immunity in HoMM4 protected from spells and abilities whereas Eador only protects vs spell casting, not ability or magic shooting units. Thus Dragons can still be Webbed and Poisoned by Spiders, unlike HoMM4.

That being said allowing Archers to Double Shot kill Mages, and perhaps other scouts, absolutely sucks. Warriors and Commanders can usually survive because they can use better Armors/gears.

Also the Might vs Magic system of HoMM4 sucked as well. Might skills were SOOOOOOOOOOooooooo much easier to improve especially since you needed a separate skill for each "School" of Magic, and they had 5 levels that each needed 2 others to be level 5 before they could be. Basically with no other things giving skills you had to be like level 13 to have top spells from one school, and that made your spell caster super vulnerable to physical attacks. Not to mention that your Barbarian could have top Armor and Offense by level 8 and complete Magic Immunity by lvl 13. That's right equal level Might vs Magic makes the Might guy pretty much immune to any damagiing/cursing spells. Add on top of all that crap like the "Potions of Immortality", Like the Reincarnation ability of the Paladin or the spell "Reincarnation", and it made Might guys one man armies.

End Rant.
Wow i just lost a shard(3rd) I was steamrolling untill i hit one battle where all gear just broke down.. and then enemy hero was first to siege my castle.. so i lost it.. Damn!

How important is that skill with gear maintainance for warrior? As i see now its TOP priority in longer battles vs 10enemies or more.. didnt expected that loss.. :((

I've found that it's not too important. If things keep breaking you can always use blacksmith's bracelets, they're fairly common. You should unlock the storehouse building for provinces pretty quickly, which can be used to repair items away from your demesne.
Dragon's cape + blacksmith's bracelets + dwarven gloves + warrior's skill = indestructible items.

Something I've noticed: Units with the damage weapon or damage armor skill will do 2 additional points of damage to your weapon/armor. For example if a gargoyle (with damage weapon) hits you, your weapon will lose 2 durability from damage weapon plus 1 from your (counter)attack. Armor lasts a lot longer since everytime you're hit a random piece of your armor is selected to take the damage.
I really dont know which shards to conquer... does it even matter if i win? I read all those descriptions(rewards if i conquer shard) and all seems good choices.. not even slightest idea how to choose..
First priority - possibility to build storage house in provinces
second - tier 2 units
third - master carpenter.
I just learned bit by playing warrior/dark lord? (which restores 3life after killing ^^ ) Hadnt had so much fun since i found out vamps resurrect other vamps in homm3..

Trying to play this strat, would like to know how it could be improved.

1 .Checking where i am in shard. Conquer areas that are in my "back" of castle so i will conquer areas towards enemy in mid, end game.
2. Find choke on sea/hill map to capture one area for building outpost( 1cheapest t1 unit )
3. buid granaries/mills + stuff on biggest found areas first.

Some thoughts on how to get better gear/what to attack at certain levels (level -10 is most important since im only at the start of campaign..)

Been enjoying warrior vs 11 thieves solo as dark knight..

1. if i build outpost i dont need to buy guard all the time to be safe from mini events? ( some events can takeover your cities..)
2. at what level i should try labyrinth as warrior(death knight) ?
3. at what level i should try arena ( each stage as death knight) ?
