Yes, reversals are brutal!

You can instead do a scum save. In the directory where eador is installed (most often in the \GOG Games\Eador - Genesis directory) you will find a folder named save. All you do is exit eador to the main menu then copy that save folder somewhere else.

If you don't like the way the turn played out then exit eador again and copy the backed up save folder back into your eador folder, replacing the one all ready there. When you then continue your campaign it will be as if you did a reversion but without the penalty.

Be aware that almost all player consider this as cheating as it goes against the spirit of the game, but if you have more fun playing while using it then I would consider it OK because you bought the game to enjoy it.

Yes, I did. I have quite a collection of games on GOG. Good, old classics all of them except Eador (it's good, but it's not old).

I haven't played Eador: Genesis in quite some time, though. I was doing that "scum save" as you call it, but once I noticed that the game somehow recognizes it if you restore and old save.

Seems like an aweful lot of trouble to go through just to save 20 points of score.

Yeah it really sucks that it counts a power outage as a reversion. It really sucks that it screws us like this when there is a way around it if it's more time consuming.

I mean you can just make a practice of doing the above procedure say every 5 turns then if something bad happens you can still win the no "Reversion" thing.

Might as well use cheatengine to set the reversions back to 0 if they are that important to someone.

There is an easier way...

You can use a file-versioning backup utility (which makes copies of selected files whenever they're about to be changed) which can handle all the housekeeping for you with Eador Genesis (Broken World has a more comprehensive savegame setup).

The programs I've found offering this include:
Aphar Backup (Dutch webpage but program runs in English, free)
AutoVer (free)
Yadis Backup (free)
FileHamster (commercial)

Of these, I favour Aphar Backup (doesn't require .NET Framework, very light, simple UI) which can monitor up to 5 folders (and their subfolders). Just start it, add Eador's savegame folder (Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\Eador on WinXP systems) and you're done (make sure you minimise rather than close the main window - a green tick should appear in the system tray to show it is running).

The only downside is if you are using NTFS junctions (aliases/shortcuts for folders rather than files) then it will not detect file updates in these, though it can (with the correct options set) backup changed files every time it starts.

What's even worse is that ounce in a while the game crashes for no reason and when you start up again it counts as a reversion.

When playing the campaign, which is rare for me, I do the exit to main menu backup every 10 turns or so just in case that happens. I don't consider it cheating to make sure I don't get penalized for random crashes.

I will admit if things go totally wrong like Trolls attacking my capitol before say turn 20 I will also load that back up as they really should have a timer on those super game ending events like Dragons, Trolls, Spiders, Undead uprisings and Demon Invasions.

Hmm I think my game crashed only like 3 times in the 1000 hours I played it, and I don't think I ever lost a game because of such an event.

To get back to the original question, as well as the reasons given above (more glory, achievements, etc) stronghold building schematics (as opposed to province building schematics) that you discover do seem to carry over - they get added to the rewards listed upon finishing the shard.

Backward compatibility - you can find in loot schematics from reward, listed for shard, so you can use them earlier.
You can't get unlisted schematics.
