Anyone else have a problem where your fighter/mage can no longer cast spells In battle in Champions Of Krynn?

I have memorized simple spells like Magic Missle or hold but when I choose cast them durning a battle I just get a flash
of a black screen. I can cast spells like Read Magic while encamped, I also checked to see if he had any ongoing effects active stopping him from casting spells but he has nothing.

I am using the Gold Box Companion Mod so I dont know if that has something to do with it.

no worries glad i could help

note: elven chain armor may allow you to cast spells,
not sure if you need to be an elf or not (officially you do
but the game devs may not have bothered to restrict it
only to elves)

In the Pools games Elf and Half Elf Fighter/Mages could use plate armour and cast spells, but a human dual classed F/M could not.
I don't have the Krynn games installed on my computer, so I can't check, but IIRC Elf and Half-Elf Fighter/Mages can use plate armour and cast spells in the Krynn games.

So it sounds like the Gold Box Companion Mod either restricts Elves and Half-Elven F/Ms, or it introduces dual-classing for Humans, and your character is a Human F/M.

Yeah my F/M is Human, so that restricts the Armor he can wear and cast spells but I did create the character before I installed the Gold box Companion so it might be a Dragon Lance thing maybe?

Gold Box Companion is pretty cool, I think you can add stuff to your charater and create custom class's but I use it for the Auto-mapping, easy access to journal entries/taven tales/game save questions, and to be able to have party status in the top screen. It's nice because it work's for all the old Gold box games and I think even 2 of the old Buck Rogers games that ran off the Gold Box Engine.

But did you dual class him before installing Gold box Companion?
You can't dual class in the Dragonlance games; that's one of the fundamental differences between the Pools and Krynn games.

You could try changing your F/M into an elf and see if he can cast spells; my understanding is that, at least in the Pool of Radiance series, that restriction was applied to humans but not elves; maybe it's the same thing here?

If you don't want an elf, you could test whether the restriction works for other races (can Dwarven Fighter/Mages cast spells while wearing armor?).

I started him out as an elf but for some reason it changed them all to humans. I had 3 elve's and now they are humans....350 year old humans hahaha.

It must be a the Gold box companion. I created the party and played for about an hour and a half before I loaded the gold box companion. I'm assumeing that had something to do with it. I suppose next time I'll create the party in the GBC and see if they stay the correct race. I was able to turn them back to elve's.
