Hi there,

Anyone know if there is a mod specifically for set items?

In this game, it is the case that most sets become obsolete before you get to complete the set.

It seems a huge shame to me since the idea of sets is very cool, but it is turned into a complete an utter waste of time by the above mentioned problem.

It seems obvious to me that the solution to this problem are the secondary quests. They should be delivering fixed set pieces as rewards and thus guaranteeing you will complete a set if you do the work.

{as opposed to now and having five pieces of the same set item and all the rest missing F###)

This would have the secondary effect of making secondary quests worth doing, since as it stands now, all you ever get is more useless crap. Hidden areas are the same, power test doors, locked doors, all the same, so, why bother?

Anyone ignoring secondary quests and hidden areas can advance quicker in the game by spending more time fighting on the front lines, and they will probably have better gear and more set pieces too! Its F#####g ridiculous.

If there was a mod that added set items as rewards with secondary quests but changed nothing else about the game, i would be seriously happy about that!

Yeah I agree, the levels are all over the place for set pieces. Most of them become obsolete compared to individual rare or unique drops.

You can try siegetheday(dot)org site. They are usually one of the go to sites for DS 1 & 2 mods. I'm not 100% sure they have set mods that scale. Worth a shot though. Oh, they should have a increased drop rate mod for rares and sets if I'm not mistaken.

There's also a set of utility software out there to customize .dsres and .dsres2 files, which can basically be put in the mod folder. It's been so long but I think they are called Tank Viewer and Tank Editor or something like that. If I get the chance, I'll try to get the exact site to avoid you having to search any risky sites.

These can be used to enhance the game if the base game gets boring. I always play the base game first before I use mods most times, but the mechanics in some games are so poorly implemented that I end up using mods to avoid letting the game collect the proverbial digital dust in my backup storage lol.

Thanks for that, i will take a look at that site.

I was reading over on the Steam DS2 forum and someone was saying there is a mod that increases the drop chance of set pieces. I guess that would fix the basic problem,... but dropped set pieces seem to have a high propensity for giving you duplicates, and never the items you need, so, will i end up flooded with useless duplicates that displace useful non set items??

It is such an obviously good idea to have set pieces linked to secondary missions in order to make you enthusiastic to put in the time and effort to do them, knowing you will get something you can actually use!!!! Things you can actually use, what a shocking and surprising concept, rite?? lol

Especially in the early stages of the game when you don't have much find magic items ability, completing the early sets by doing secondary missions is even more critical.

DS2 is such an old game now, though there are still some active modders out there. Neverwinter nights probably has a much more active modding cummunity.

If they ever remaster the game or make a DS4 game, maybe they will take a lot of user feedback before releasing it. Wishful thinking I guess lol.

DS2 may be old, but i will be damned if i can find a better game of that style since then!!?? Just the natural flow of the game is so perfect for my style.... It is simple, and everything is easy to do with little effort but not boring, not too hard, not too complex (**Neverwinter nights**).
I got DS3 and i do NOT like it. I really don't get how all these game developers seem to manage to make everything shit in newer versions.... oh wait, i do know.... all the hardcore gamers with styles that i hate, whisper in the developers ear and then that is what they do.

I also have Neverwinter nights 2, i did love that game, but Geezuz if that character development system did not give me a brain hemorrhage it is a F#####g miracle! And then the replay ability is shit canned by the fixed loot system, what you got the first game is exactly what you get the next game, well F-that.
The castle development system was supremo, LOVED IT!!
I played through it once, loved it, but could not win the final battle. Started playing through it a second time, but when i started to notice all the loot was the same, i got bored and moved on to different games.

DS2 is fun so disagreeing there. Like any game I've played too many times, including one of my favorites Diablo 2, I can't play the base game anymore w/o mods. Take for example Diablo 2. Without the Plugy mod and Hero Editor, this single player portion is not as exciting to me anymore. This is from a person who played it on BNet for over 4 years and single player on and off a few times.

I still love DS1 and DS2, but I need mods now to truly enjoy it. I own DS3, but I haven't played it yet, so no comment on that one.

Sadly, the loot system for most single player RPGs aren't too exciting. I usually play the love the game for a variety of reasons (story, combat, treasures, etc.) and so long as one of those reasons entices me, then I'm good. Most games like Neverwinter Nights 2, I tend to wait a few years to replay to keep it fresh. This reminds me of another game now, Dragon Age: Origins lol.

Too bad I gave up MMOs, eventually they turn into a job. Without the pay. :)
.
Hmm, for some reason I didn't remember the castle part in NWN2.

The reason people like myself do not like DS3 is because it is not DS3!
For those who were not expecting it to be DS3, but a new game in its own right, then it is a good game.

I have never been a huge fan of this genre of game, but some individual games just tick all the right boxes for me...
Quake1, Turok, DS2.... these are like exceptions to the general rule that i do not like this style of game. So from this position, i was sorely disgusted by DS3, horrible.
I dabbled in DS1 a little bit, seemed very similar to DS2, no complaints. ( i played DS2 first)
