Just exited the Alpine Caverns, the one where you have to kill about 10 Ice Warriors and a Frost Drake at the exit. Then, after killing a few Klaw, Ice Flies and Braak I found a path leading to nowhere, just a flat edge that looks out into a void?

I reloaded a save game and found the path was now leading me to Jeriah's Cabin, but after a few fights the same thing is happening again? The map just ends in flat edges that lead to a void and so you can't progress? You also can't exit or save the game so you have to Alt+TAB and kill the program.

Anyone else had this happen?
This was a major problem with the game had it happen a lot when playing with friends for extended hours, we believed it was due to system memory, but it was a problem with the faries, there is a mod that fixed it by removing the faries healing ability.

Description:

Patch for Fairy/Pixie-related terrain and crashing issues in Dungeon Siege. If a Fairy or Pixie restores a character's health or mana, the player may subsequently encounter missing terrain, and game crashes. The file disables the abilities of both creatures. Extract fairyfix.dsres to <path-to-game>\Resources

This is a prevention, not a cure; it won't fix the problem after it happens. To fix an existing problem, follow the instructions here.

Thankfully it's not a save game corruption.

Thanks, never had this happen when I first bought it all those years ago but it's happening now! I am experiencing lots of 'freezes' too where the game will 'freeze' for minutes or a few seconds then carry on! Will apply that fix and see if it helps!

Did seem to happen when a fairy/pixie gave one of my characters a gift of mana after exiting the Alpine Caverns!

Hmm consider yourself lucky then if you never had it happen back then. As for the freezing check out the steam guide it has a lot of fixes that can help. I personally haven't ran into any issues but I am running the Legends of Aranna version that has a bunch of fixes included in the release. But near the bottom it has a bunch of issues and solutions that can help if you dont want to switch over to the Legends of Aranna release.

Applied the fairy fix, not had any terrain issues in the Dark Forest yet but the constant freezing is making the game unplayable!

Not sure what the issue is, everything was fine before exiting the Alpine Caverns but now it's freezing so much i'm saving every minute and I can't enjoy the game anymore! It freezes totally randomly, in the middle of a fight, trading, exploring or checking your inventory!

Not going to go through all those fixes as nobody should be expected to jump through all those hoops just to get the game they purchased working, I will put in a support ticket instead, see what GOG say!

Other then the normal "Ensure your drivers are up to date" here is 2 suggestions that may work.
1, Run DSVideoConfig and change your driver from Hardware TnL to Hardware or vice versa
2. Add "bltonly=true" command line argument or add it to the .ini
Well, I think I may have solved it by jumping though a hoop or two!

Was running at 1920 x 1200 since the start of the game, but read that higher resolutions past 1080 can crash the game! However, to run all this time at that res without crashing until after the Alpine Caverns/Dark Forest areas just didn't seem right.

To test, I dropped to 1024 x 768 as I was in the swamp and played for an hour, no freezes. Exited and went back to 1920 x 1200 and after half an hour or so got a few stalls and hitches so saved and quit.

So i''m now trying the dgVoodoo2 fix, still running at 1920 x1200 res but noticed a few things like sudden white textures in the distance appearing no longer happen. no glitches on the map and the game feels a bit smoother, maybe placebo effect but to me it seems smoother. So going to play some more using the dgVoodoo2 files and see how it goes!

Glad to hear, never thought to ask what your resolution was as I have mine running lower at 1280x720 as the HUD doesn't scale. Anything higher and I cant read the text on the TV from where I play.

Having set the resolution in dgVodoo2 of 1920 x 1200 and 1024 x 768 ingame, it works but my text isn't as clear like the native UI in 1024 x 768 without dgVoodoo2, seems like it's being stretched to fit!

The UI is set to a 4:3 ratio so just need to change the game resolution to widescreen format so it doesn't stretch as for the text there is a larger font mod that should clear up the text. Use either Width=1280 Height=720 command line argument or modify the .ini file.

Sorry I see you run a 16:10 ratio so you just need to adjust the Width=#### Height=#### to comparable resolution, 1280x800, or 1440x900 try both and see what your comfortable with.

The text mod is part of seefar2020
https://www.moddb.com/games/dungeon-siege/downloads/seefar2020-increased-draw-distance-and-minor-improvements just extract and there is a folder called font14 copy the dsres file to the resources folder. Should help with the text

Set it to 1280 x 800 and still the same inconsistent text but 1440 x 900 moves the right hand edge of the UI in about 2 inches and squashes all the text!!

Tried the large text mod, while it looked OK I didn't notice it had the unwanted effect of moving the bottom status bar to the top off the screen! So, after saving a game then deciding I didn't like the status bar where it was I removed the mod but the status bar is still at the top of the screen as it adds it to the save game data, the previous save game that's OK was a few hours back :(

So now I'm left with screwy text and a borked status bar!!
Well the status bar has now decided to go back to the bottom of the screen, no idea why, I'd just finished a fight and wanted the map but the status bar was gone from the top of the screen, took a few seconds to realise it was back where it should be!

I think the text issue is due to the screen being stretched from 4:3 to 16:10 in dgVoodoo2, so that's why I think the text is not uniform as in a 4:3 aspect!
