yey, works perfectly!
thanks alot

Never played dungeon keeper before, and the default interface looks dated (for me at least) but with keeperFX it's perfectly fine

For those that don't like Daemon tools anymore, I recommend WinCDEmu, which is super lightweight, absolutely non instrusive and open source under LGPL too!

Works perfectly. Thanks for the guide. I am having problems getting it to run in windowed mode. Is it possible? I can't se the option under properteries. Alt+enter does not work either
Two issues I've encountered with KeeperFX.

1. The mouse cursor is software, that means that the mouse cursor is locked to the framerate of the game, and at the standard 20 frames per second the cursor is all "skippy" and imprecise. Increasing the framerate does help, but that also increases the game speed, making it a "this or that" situation. No such problem in the DosBOX version.

2. No Direct3D or OpenGL means no integration with modern systems. For example, forget about Steam overlay. Also no such problem in the DosBOX version after a small tweak in the config file.

Things I appreciate is the campaigns integration, and pretty nice screen resolution settings. If it weren't for the above two problems I'd probably use it.
How to get music with Keeperfx? I mounted the game.iso in deamontools and evereything works except the music. i assume there are no music files in the gog iso

The jittery mouse problem can be fixed by appending the KeeperFX shortcut with this command line option: -vidriver windib

You can also do this by loading Launcher.exe, click on "Run options", then tick "Force driver" and enter windib into the text box instead of directx.

I updated the first post with this information, just in case other people experience the same problem.

Are you using Windows 8.1 by any chance?

The DOSBox version uses ripped OGG audio files, keeper02.ogg, keeper03.ogg etc. The game.gog ISO does not contain the audio tracks, so you will need to obtain an original Dungeon Keeper 1 CD if you'd like to hear the music. KeeperFX will play them straight from disc. You could alternatively play the OGG files yourself in the background using a supported media player.

Miezekatze: myself: "Where is the .gog file? I found it neither in the game's directory, in the files extracted from the installer nor anywhere else. Where is the .gog file? I found it neither in the game's directory, in the files extracted from the installer nor anywhere else."

My file extensions are not hidden and I also searched the file with a local search engine.
The file is labelled "game.gog".

It will be in the root of your GOG Games Dungeon Keeper Gold folder. If it is not there, then somehow this file has been moved or deleted from your hard disk. I suggest re-installing and making sure that you have the very latest version.

I am using setup_dungeon_keeper_gold_2.0.0.4.exe

I'm using Windows 7.

It's not that the mouse is jittery, more like laggy, as in low FPS lag. It works fine at 40-60 fps and 50-70 mouse sensitivity, but as you'd guess, game's also 2x-3x faster.

I tried your fix though, no change. Checked a few other options as well, and It got either worse or didn't change at all.

Funny that in the game's main menu the mouse works great without tweaking (possibly the lower resolution? dunno). It's more bearable in game with that sensitivity lowered, still not as perfect as in the OS.

Yeah, I understand the general mouse lag, your best bet would be to address the problem with the developers to see if they can recommend or implement a solution.

The fix I suggested is for a more serious problem, where the mouse cursor moves slower or faster than expected, causing it to jump about.

I installed KeeperFX and it looks fantastic. The lack of music is no problem, as the non-functioning slider for music was quite annoying in the Gog version of DK anyway.

A problem I do have though, is that the main menu is cut off at the bottom (which means I have to alt-tab and close to quit) and messages ingame are shown just outside of monitor range as well, despite the rest of the interface (In game anyway) looking normal.

I've tried a number of resolutions to see if it helps, but so far nothing's worked. Can you offer any hints?

What graphics card do you have? I suggest trying your native screen resolution first. If that doesn't help, try forcing a different SDL Video driver using Launch.exe. There are two modes, directx and windib. One of them should hopefully solve the problem. If that doesn't help, check to see if you're using the very latest graphics drivers.

If you change the screen resolution on Windows, do experience the same problem? Are you using a VGA cable? Check your monitor settings to see if there is an option to perform an automatic screen alignment.

I've played KeeperFX on many different hardware configurations, and never had an issue with the screen being cut off. That's a peculiar one for sure. Do other games work fine for you?

Excuse my ignorance but please tell me if I'm understanding this right as I believe I may have a solution.

If I'm not mistaken the original Dungeon Keeper CD contained [AUDIO] track data (like an audio CD) in addition to [DATA] track data (the game's actual files). So keeperFX, which still uses the original game's sound code (Miles) looks for an audio CD in the first drive, and plays the appropriate track number on that CD as called by the game.

GoG, in their release, have made a workaround allowing the game to read OGG files they've ripped from the original CD as though they were audio tracks. This fix obviously is not implemented in KeeperFX.

However, we already have the OGG files with the GoG release, and above a person suggested WinCDEmu as a great image loader for ISOs.

Shouldn't it be a trivial matter of taking the OGG files GoG has provided, and creating a music/audio CD ISO, then loading that in WinCDEmu or similar program? If KeeperFX is insistent that it be the first CD Drive, then simply temporarily disabling any other CD drives while you run the game should work just fine. This, while still a bit of a complex workaround, will allow anyone who's purchased the GoG version to get their music in KeeperFX with the files they already have, rather than having to track down a CD or look elsewhere for an image.

Do I understand this correctly, would this work? If that's the case, I or someone else may be able to write a simple script to do the majority of this task automatically as well!

Ok I solved the problem for you guys by making a .CUE file which is mountable. I've tested it with KeeperFX and the music plays once you start a dungeon.
You will need to convert the OGG files to WAV in order for this to work.

http://www.mediafire.com/view/p9260g882l75i7p/game.cue

Edit the paths in the CUE sheet so that they correctly point to wherever you have the files. Please note that it is not required to rename the game.gog file anymore.

Dungeon Keeper uses the first available CD drive on your system, so you need to make sure that your virtual drive is listed before your physical drive. If you have a physical CD drive, you can change the drive letter under Disk Management or disable it using Device Manager. Alternatively, you could burn the CUE sheet to a disc and do it the old fashioned way.

If you have any problems or need further clarification, please ask.
