ATTENTION: THIS NO LONGER WORKS. THE DEEPER DUNGEONS EXECUTABLE WAS REMOVED FROM THE INSTALLER - ONLY THE FEW LUCKY ENOUGH TO DOWNLOAD THE GAME RIGHT AFTER IT WENT UP CAN BENEFIT FROM THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE DEEPER DUNGEONS ARE NOT OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Although The Deeper Dungeons don't seem to be added to the GOG package, they are actually present in the datafiles - it's just that you'll need some additional work to get it to... um... work. I've successfully ran The Deeper Dungeons with the text data, the levels are fully working and there seems to be no problems. It's not very hard and I'd bet many users here have already figured it out, but if there is anyone who doesn't know what to do or just plain can't get it to work, here's a handy guide.

PREREQUISITES:
A. Some sort of application that will let you access the files on the CD image. I'm personally using Daemon Tools to mount it and move the files manually.
B. A text editor: Notepad should suffice.

I'm assuming you already have the GOG package installed. Here's how to do it, step by step:
1. Mount, open, or otherwise extract the file GAME.GOG from the game's installation folder. If you're using Daemon Tools, while selecting the file to be mounted, write "*.*" as the file name, which will show you all of the files in the folder.
2. Find the file DD1TEXT.DAT - it should be in the following subfolders in the image's root: Keeper\data\english
3. Copy the file to the DATA folder where you installed the GOG package (for instance: C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Dungeon Keeper\DATA )
4. From your desktop or the Start Menu, copy the game's shortcut somewhere and rename it to Dungeon Keeper The Deeper Dungeons for clarity (you can move it back later on).
5. Edit the shortcut by rightclicking on it and choosing "Properties":
6. In the "Target" line, change the fragment "dosboxDK.conf" to "dosboxDKDD.conf", then apply.
7. Copy the file dosboxDK.conf somewhere and rename that copy to dosboxDKDD.conf
8. Move the dosboxDKDD.conf file back to the GOG installation folder.
9. Open the file dosboxDKDD.conf with notepad.
10. Find the line:
Keeper.exe
and change it to:
deeper.exe
11. Save.
12. Use your newly-created shortcut to play Deeper Dungeons.

The scroll speed and various other problems can be fixed as described here:

That doesn't seem to work. Perhaps because there is no such thing as a deeper.exe in the game directory?

Apparently the first couple of hours after the game went live on GoG.com, the deeper.exe was in there. It seems it has now been removed.

Since Deeper dungeons isn't sold for legal reasons, I suppose it perfectly makes sense. So much for Deeper Dungeons, then, I guess we won't be able to play it for a looooong time. Wich is a shame: I simply do not understand how GOG.com could get the rights to sell Dungeon Keeper but not its extension.

I've just redownloaded the installer and I confirm that the Deeper Dungeons executable is not there anymore (i downloaded mine yesterday maybe half an hour after it went up). Too bad. Although there's still a chance that GoG can resolve the licencing issues and deliver these legally - we can only hope. Funny thing though - the datafiles (levels, text data) are still there.

I'll alter the first post to inform this no longer works so the few lucky bastards from yesterday can still benefit.
Ah... so I gather they very quickly fired out an installer that doesn't have Deeper Dungeons in it. How annoying!

Could someone explain to me what the legal issues are or could be with including Deeper Dungeons? The only possible problem I can see is that maybe EA doesn't own Deeper Dungeons. If EA owned Deeper Dungeons, then why wouldn't GoG just ask EA to allow them to sell the Gold version?

Would it be illegal for someone to host a download for deeper.exe?
deeper.exe intact = time to rule the Heavens!!!! xD

just kiddin', I'll wait for the add-on to be officially released. I don' like to cheat, ya know, and installing something that was included in the package by PURE chance smells like stealing to me...

:p

btw: who else is irritated by that ''a pirate who joined... '' thing? WE'RE NOT PIRATES!!!!!

That's just a (self-chosen) description of, believe it or not, gender from way back in the account creation process. GOG gives you a big list of possible terms, like Guy, Pirate, and others. You can change it by going to your account page, clicking "Account & Settings" next to the logout button, and updating your info.

Or

you're a pirate!!!

I have the original Deeper Dungeons disc and wonder if there is any way I can install this to the GOG version of DK.
Worked perfectly, glad I bought it right after the announcement.
if users kept their findings to themselves then it would still be included. Who knows, maybe it was a gift from gog, but now that the info leaked they are forced to take it out...

dudalb: I have the original Deeper Dungeons disc and wonder if there is any way I can install this to the GOG version of DK.
Theoretically it should be possible by just moving several files to the GOG package's installation folder and then following my instructions above. Unfortunately I'm not in posession of an original disc and don't really want to grab a pirated one. I could help you if you would show me the entire directory structure of the disc (that is - just the file and folder names, from every subfolder).

[EDIT]
After thinking about it some more, if the GOG package remains unchanged (that is - the datafiles for Deeper Dungeons are not removed), it should only be a matter of copying "deeper.exe" into the installation folder and then following my instructions in the first post. However, I'd still like that directory structure just in case GOG decides to remove them too - then I could write additional instructions for disc owners such as yourself.
