Here's a couple of things to try:
1) Open the file dosboxDK.conf in Notepad (this file is in your main Dungeon Keeper Gold folder) and look for the line starting with 'fullscreen=true' (without the quotes)
2) In that section, look for the line 'fullresolution=original' and replace it with 'fullresolution=desktop' (again, without the quotes).

It should now open at the same resolution as you computer's desktop. Note this stretches the graphics to your desktop's resolution, so some pixelation and distortion may occur. Also, since the default resolution is a 4:3 ratio, there will likely be black bars on either side of the picture. However you should be able to see the game easier.

Some of the pixelation can be smoothed by playing with the filter settings. In the Launch Graphc Mode Setup program, you can alter the filter by clicking the Advanced Settings tab and playing with the Scaling Engine dropdown list. If you see any color glitches, you may also want to change the Graphic mode dropdown on the Basic Settings tab to something other than Surface (Overlay and DDraw are the two I use most often).

Hope this helps.

I am also trying to figure this out and Dungeon Keeper is not a simple solution because it has a "launcher" that runs in SVGA while the regular game runs in low-res, so even if you get DOSbox to work with the launcher correctly, then when the game spawns the "regular" part of the game, it's back to the default.

Is this yet another GOG game that really isn't playable? I'm trying. I got pretty fed up with GOG after buying Ultima 7 and finding it all but impossible to play. Now this is the first game I've bought in 6 months and it's unplayable too (unless you can see a 640x480 game screen on a 24" LCD in any playable way.

Hi, jsharbour.

If you're getting a little tiny box in the middle of your monitor, you may need to check your graphics drive's control panel for the scaling settings. For AMD cards, it's in the section Properties (Name of Display). Most smaller resolutions default to Centered. To get it to Full Screen, you'll need to set your desktop to the resolution and then change the setting. nVidia cards have a similar setting.

Also, once the game is loaded and you're at the map screen or the dungeon screen, pressing Alt + R switches the game to a 'hi-res' mode that smooths the graphics a bit and makes them look nicer. My current game on a netbook with 1366x768 looks pretty nice by using DDraw for the graphics, desktop for the fullscreen setting and using Alt+R in the game to set the 'hi-res' mode. I haven't tried this on my desktop yet, but it should look pretty decent still.

Hope this helps.

Hi, AlcardZulu.

You'll want to look in the folder you installed Dungeon Keeper. On my system, that's in C:\Games\GOG\Dungeon Keeper Gold. That's assuming you're running Windows. If you're running Linux or Mac, I'm not certain where it installs (possibly in the /opt folder, if I recall the threads I've read).

I'm thinking (if you're running Linux) you can open the GogDOSConfig file in gedit (or similar) and check it out. It may serve the same purpose as the dosboxDK.conf file on Windows. Just make a backup of the file before you start editing. As for driver configuration for changing the scaling options, I'm not familiar enough with the Linus or Mac drivers to offer any assistance there, but check Google and see if you can find a configuration tutorial.

Hope this helps. =)

Here are is what i had to change in dosboxDK.conf in order to get a nice full size picture with correct aspect ratio (black bars left and right, stretched but not distorted ).

fullresolution=desktop
output=overlay
aspect=true
scaler=none

Hope this helps.
