Is there any chance GOG will be doing what they did to DK1 for DK2? I'm not massively technical so I doubt I'd be able to set it up to work on my mac on my own.

Got DK1 on there and it's working great but DK2 was my favourite out of the two.
I hope they do. I'd love to play it but like you, I'm not super technical either!
Agree, cant wait for DK2!
Odds are low, I say: Dungeon Keeper 1 was a simple DOXbox job, and so the Mac version is basically the same game with a different version of DOSbox. Dungeon Keeper 2 is a native Windows program, so is far harder to port.

The thing is Dungeon Keeper 1 had a DOS version so GOG could just set it up to run in a stand alone version of Boxer, Dungeon Keeper 2 on the other hand is Windows only and so will require GOG to use something like Wine to run it on the MAC,pending of course it can run reliably through something like Wine in the first place, and right now GOG does not seem to be using anything of the sort at least not yet anyway so it may be sometime if at all.
That's too bad! Thanks for the info, though.

You could always try PlayOnMac or Crossover. Both of them based on wine. First one is free the second offers a full trial for a week or so.
Would love to see it on Mac too.
It turns out it wasn't too difficult to get DK2 to run on a Mac using Wineskin. What a fun game!

I have Crossover 11 on my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.3. I loved DK2 back in the day and still have the original discs, though I no longer have a Windows PC to install it on.

When I saw that DK2 was so cheap on GOG I immediately plunked down the money for it, and went in search of Crossover support. I found this page - http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name?app_id=3201 - which supplies a CrossTie, a 3rd-party created recipe to run an application under Crossover/wine - which claims to run the version of DK2 supplied by GOG.

Overjoyed, I clicked and installed, only to have it fail on install with the ever helpful message: Runtime Error (at 139:148): Access violation at address 468B3763 in module 'gdiplus.dll'. Read of address 06556F3C.

Has anyone got this version of DK2 running under Crossover on a Mountain Lion Mac?

Thanks,
--Clive.

I GOT IT WORKING!!

Nice. OK, so here's how I did it.

I have the latest version of the DK2 installer from GOG.com, which has the installer filename setup_dungeon_keeper2_2.0.0.32.exe

Then I went to [link removed] and installed the Winery installer. I did an update, then a little Googling led me here: [link removed] so I kept that open (you'll need it in a minute)

I installed the Engine WS8Wine1.3.9 and then created a new blank wrapper which I named DK2. Once that had created, I (can't remember exactly, so I'm guessing a little bit here) think I ran it and selected "Install software". Then I located my DK2 installer from GOG.com and installed that. I think it complained about not finding something, but seemed to go ahead and install anyway.

I then did a test run and the screen was screwy - I have dual monitors, and it was half on one and half on the other. I can't remember what I did about that, but I might have overridden something in Screen Options.

Anyway, I ran it again and the screen was fine, and the game started. But the mouse was really hard to control. That's where you need the mouse settings from earlier. In Wineskin > Advanced > Tools you run Regedit, find current user > Software > Wine, create a new key called MouseWarpOverride, and give it a new string value of disable

Eat violin, it worked!

Really hope this helps someone else out there to run this awesome game on their Mac.

Cheers,

EDIT: I can't post links here for some reason - I guess I'm too new a member. For the first one just google "Wineskin Winery download" and for the second one google "wineskin dungeon keeper 2 mouse" (both without quotes).

The crossties are usually kept current/adjusted (if required) for the latest version of Crossover. Atm, that would be version 12.2.0. Version 12 also has a new Mac driver that is supposed to deprecate the use of X11 on Mac OS X and is enabled with that file.

Using old/unsupported software is tricky business.

Gotcha.

I don't feel inclined to upgrade to Crossover 12, since I bought Crossover 11 about a month before the update to 12, and it's not a free upgrade. Plus I only really bought it in the first place to play Guild Wars, and that still works fine. :)

Anyhow, I got DK2 running via Wineskin so it all worked out in the end.

Thanks for the info re Crossties though - I'll bear that in mind for future reference.

What you should've bought was a one year subscription. During that time you'd have been able to download any version of Crossover including major ones like version 12. I'm guessing you went for the "1 month" deal. What did you expect?!

Yearly sub renewal is 50% off the initial price and you can always google up some codes to slash off a bit more off the price.

From: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/faq/upgrade_policy/

During their support period, CodeWeavers customers will receive all product upgrades and releases at no additional charge. This includes point releases (bug fixes), major releases, and unsupported builds.
