Hi everybody!
I have a problem with DK2.

If I try to run it in "normal resolution", the only thing I get is a black screen. I can hear the music of the videos, but I can see nothing. However, the game seems to respond to my actions, because if I move the mouse while on the menu (I know that because of the audio), I get the sounds of menu items being selected. If I ALT-TAB to Windows, when I go back to the game, I can see the menu, but the video remains stuck.

I have tried applying amateur patches, compatibility mode, as well as custom config.inis, but nothing worked.
I've also tried to force the game to run onto NVidia GPU instead of the default (Intel embedded) one.

The only thing that actually worked was forcing the resolution down to 640x480 in the Windows "Compatibility" tab.
Since the game natively supports a more adequate resolution of 1024x768, I find quite disturbing to play it at almost half resolution.

Do you have any clue on how to solve this issue?

OS: Win7 x64
Graphics: NVidia GeForce GT 540M + Intel HD Graphics
CPU: Intel Core i3

The problem could derive from having two GPUs. The game usually runs flawless on nVidia cards and causes problems on AMD GPUs. If you are able to completely shut down the Intel GPU (e.g. in the BIOS) your problem might be solved.

I don't know what you have done so far, so I'd try again with a fresh installation (uninstall and delete the Dungeon Keeper 2 folder if it remains).

- Don't use Compatibility Mode and don't run it with another account for now.
- Use ..\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.exe to start the game and not the Desktop link or any other executable (like DKII-DX.exe), otherwise the registry settings are ignored.

If the game starts with DKII.EXE, but you get a black background in the main menu or a crash, hardware acceleration might not work properly, so we switch to software mode.
- Quit the game and open regedit (press Windows-Key + R to open the run dialog and enter regedit)
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video
- Set "Engine Id" to "4"
- Set "Screen Hardware3D" to "0"
- Restart the game and check if it's running. If so, quit the game and we try changing the resolution

Now edit "Screen Width" and "Screen Height" in the registry at above mentioned location
- Make sure you enter the values in Decimal and not in Hexadecimal
- Not every resolution works, in my case the game runs with 1280x800, but e.g. with 1680x1050 it crashes to desktop, try 800x600 or 1024x748 for a start
- The main menu will still use a low res, the higher resolutions only show in-game

Dear DeMignon, thanks for your answer.
I tried to do as you said, but unfortunately it didn't work.

The game crashes right after being launched. There are two blinks of the screen, but nothing more. :(
Is DirectX9 properly installed?
