That's not entirely true. There were 3 patches for dungeon keeper.
The first improved the computer ai. This one worked on both the dos and windows versions.
The second one was windows only, and added d3d support. This was a very strong anti-aliasing effect applied to everything at the expense of all creature possession effects (i.e. vampires lost their red vision, flies the segmented eyes) and some spell effects (i.e. lightning no longer cased the screen to switch to a b;ue/white palette momentarily.)
Then there was a third one that was for windows only, which fixed an ipx network configuration problem for win98.
No patch added any gui improvements

19th March 1998
Dungeon Keeper Direct3D Upgrade v10.1
** Please select Word Wrap from the Edit menu **
** if you are viewing this file in Notepad **
This version of Dungeon Keeper supports 3D accelerator cards using the
Direct3D standard. To play Dungeon Keeper Direct3D, you will need a supported
graphics card (see list below), and the latest DirectX5 drivers ready
installed. You will also need the original Dungeon Keeper game.
This readme also applies to the Direct3D version of the Deeper Dungeons,
to play this you will need the Deeper Dungeons CD, and the Deeper Dungeons
Direct3D upgrade.
If you do not have a supported graphics card and DirectX5 you should play the
standard version of Dungeon Keeper.
Note to Dungeon Keeper Gold owners : the Dungeon Keeper Gold CD already
contains the Direct3D version and the Deeper Dungeons. You do not need this
upgrade.
And the third one:
*The Problem*
------------
When trying to host an IPX multi-player game using Windows 98 I get an "Unable to Initialise" error.
error message.
*The Solution*
-------------
Simply copy the relevant .exe file from this download depending on your game type into your
Keeper directory. This will overwrite your exisitng .exe file with one of the new files.
These four files are for the following games:-
Keeper95.exe - The original Dungeon Keeper install
Keepd3d.exe - For the Direct 3D version of Dungeon Keeper
deeper95.exe - For Deeper Dungeons data disk
deepd3d.exe - For the Direct 3D version of Deeper Dungeons
*To use*
--------
Simply copy the relevant .exe file over your exisitng .exe file in the Keeper directory
on your hard drive.
