Duke Nukem 1+2, Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition, Balls of Steel and Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project were all removed from sale here (and most other digital stores - though you may find a stray few, non-key reseller marketplaces that still sell the games: like this for example) when Gearbox clamped down on the Duke IP.

The games themselves, assuming you owned all/any of them prior to the removal, remain in your game library for download though.

In fact, the only way you can get it digitally is to get Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour on Steam, with "remastered" audio and an entirely new episode, but without any of the non-3D Realms expansions.
What is the background story ?
Why were they removed ?
Why some levels are missing in the steam edition ?
What is the purpose of life ?

The game has been removed because intellectual property has been changed or something like that I do not get too much, but it's a loss. :(

What is the purpose of life ?

Buy offcial guides for his favorite video games, translate them, often play fps and horror games like Killing Floor or Resident Evil, basically enjoy life. ;)

Gearbox acquired the rights to all Duke Nukem games which were previously under 3D Realms. This required an entirely new deal between Gearbox and Valve/GOG. Gearbox doesn't seem to care for GOG, though.

The same happened when Bethesda acquired the rights to Fallout games from the Interplay era (Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics). They were brought back on GOG a few years later in somewhat altered releases.

The expansions, with the exception of the Plutonium Pak, were made by authorized third-party developers at the time, not 3D Realms. Including them would require getting the proper rights, which Gearbox apparently failed to do.

Avoiding to think of the purpose of life, because that's depressing.

Thank you guys for being patient and answering my questions.
It is really sad to see this happen however this is why we should thank that GOG even exists. They offered DRM free versions of these games and it allows us to keep them in our accounts so we can continue to enjoy these good old games.
Well this is just pathetic... Everyone will happily still buy Duke Nuken from Gog with all of Gog's updates to make games work on Windows properly. I would never buy older games on Steam, because they hardly ever work, where as on Gog, they work 100% of the time on all Windows versions from experience.

If these mofo's prevent Gog from selling Duke Nukem anymore, it's their loss really, since people will just torrent it instead. There's no where else to legitimately get the bloody thing in a working condition like Gog had it going... -_-

So much fail in removing Duke Nukem from the Gog store... so much fail... -_-
It's a damn shame. You know, my first experience with Gearbox was Half-Life Opposing Force, which is a brilliant piece of work and in some ways better than the Vanilla HL.

It sucks how low Gearbox has sunk since then. But then, Even Valve has gone down the tube as well. All they do now is sell other companies' stuff and make millions off worthless aesthetic perks and microtransations.
I guess I've been living under a rock; I was completely unaware of these removals! I was fortunate enough to have bought the games sometime ago when GOG had them on sale, but I'm sure there are latecomers among us who weren't so lucky. Business is business, I suppose, but it still sucks.

The joys of DRM-free software: being able to backup copy my purchases.

Better still, dump the GRP file into eduke32 and have a pretty tricked out version of the game.

Can anyone dropbox or google drive these for a download that still has them? I purchased them legit from GOG so not looking to pirate anything.

If you purchased it from GOG, shouldn't it still be in your library?
Just gearbox being assholes, as always. It's a shame really, but I wouldn't count on seeing it back here, ever.
