So I downloaded Duke Nukem 3D today, and playing the game makes my computer's resolution jump all over the place. The first two times I played it, it was fine, but upon exiting, my desktop's resolution shrank from 1680x1050 to 1280x800. The third time starting up the game, the image was no longer at full screen and appeared compressed. After a while I realized that if I turned my computer's resolution down to 1280x800, even though I didn't have to the first couple of times.
Admittedly, I'm not that experienced when it comes to PC gaming, but this is odd to me. When I downloaded Doom off Steam I never had to tinker with the resolution so the game or desktop would fit the screen. Same thing when I played Ultima and Fallout off GOG. Granted, this isn't exactly a deal breaker, but I'm curious as to why this happens.
For extra information, my desktop is Windows 8 (off-topic, but I love GOG because it accommodates Windows 8 users. Wish I had a different desktop so I could play other PC games, not to mention have Doom work again, but oh well). If anyone is tech-savvy enough to tell me why this happens, I'd greatly appreciate it.
