You can change the controls in the dos version. I prefer going through the config file directly rather than setup these days. One common problem to look out for is mapping multiple actions to the same key, make sure that if you mapped w to move forward, a to straff left, s to move back, and d to straff right that these keys arn't mapped to anything else.
Since you don't seem to have any nostalgia for the original game though, why not save yourself some grief and get eduke32. The aiming/mouse-look in it is much nicer, and iirc the keys have a modern mapping by default.

I don't have an mp3 and i am not going to buy one just for that, anyway i bought it to play on my laptop. I already have the game on Xbox but its not the best version. I just cant believe its so difficult to change the control setup. I will Probably will never play it because of this. :(

Hey guys.
I'm not really used to FPS games, so I need a bit of help with basic controls.
This is my current setup:
W - Move forwards
S - Move backwards
A - Strafe left
D - Strafe right
Mouse forward - Aim Up
Mouse backwards - Aim Down
Mouse X axis - Turning
Shift - Run
C - Jump
X - Crouch
Shift - Run
Tab - Map
Does this sound OK or can I do even better? :)
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for this. It really helped me out. I'm still considering using autohotkey to make aiming up and down possible with the mouse. I'll post an update if I figure something out.
EDIT: Ok, I tried out something simple but it seems the game (dosbox?) doesn't react to autohotkey scripts. Probably because input events are polled on a very low level. Too bad. If you have any other ideas on how to make this work, let me know.

In the settings:
Mouse forward - Aim Up
Mouse backwards - Aim Down
And you can aim with your mouse. But it's not as smooth as you would expect.

Sure, np. The only thing I find unfortunate about the way I set the controls up is that mouse aiming isn't quite as responsive as I've grown accustomed to in modern shooters. Adjusting the mouse sensitivity seems to only effect side to side movement, not up and down. So I just scaled to sensitivity to what I'm getting from my up and down movement and just accepted that it was probably as good as it was gonna get. I don't know how to fix something like that. It's not bad really, I'm not having any trouble, I just needed to get used to it. I remember I played this as a kid with the default settings and not using the mouse at all so I guess I can adjust anything. Lots of old dos games controlled like Duke Nukem.
EDIT: Nvm, figured it out. Added to original post.

Inside Controller Setup, enter in Setup Advanced Control Options - Advanced Mouse Setup. There you can adjust Mouse Foward to Aim_Up and Mouse Backward to Aim_Down. Finally, select Mouse Y Axis and press DEL to remove this option.Niko_IO

I'm already able to aim up and down if I turn mouse aiming on with the U key, thanks though. I did find out today to go here -
1. Select Start.
2. Select 'All Programs'
3. Select 'GOG.com'
4. Select 'Duke Nukem 3d'
5. Select 'Graphic Mode Setup'
6. Select the 'Advanced Settings' tab.
Now you can see a slider bar for Mouse Sensitivity that will allow for more sensitive aiming than the in game options. I've been pretty happy with the way it's set now.

Don't use y axis. Delete that option.
Use Mouse forward/backwards.
It's an option under Controler Setup/Advanced/Mouse.
