Honestly for singleplayer I would rather the GOG edition on EDuke32 and find the addons elsewhere (the GRP files can be launched in there and the original addon disc files can be turned into GRP files, FYI). The thing uses objectively outdated software (actually the Win version is on a very very old version of EDuke32, technically) because it's a ported XBOX version.

Dat improved multiplayer though, I've always said that EDuke32 is really bad on that front. It could be worth it just for that improvement because it is actually a pretty good deal for a ten given the rarity of the addons.

I like Steam but for this I'll stick with my GoG version.

Hopefully the expansions might appear on GoG someday.

Actually there's lots of expansions they left out, but they're just extremely old map collections collected from the Internet.

I don't really think GOG can get into the expansions right now because of rights. Not sure if they ever will.

You could always buy it for the data files and just run it with eduke.exe. Then you get the game with all expansions and the best source port around.

It is a strange winport. Namely, Jonof's. But it doesn't stop you from using eduke with it as I mention above.

No, they're the normal .grp and .con files which you can use in any Duke port .exe; either the native duke3d.exe or any other port.

Personally, I just made a bunch of batch files and copied the Addons DIR and DUKE3D.GRP to my Eduke32 DIR and made a bunch of batch files. Like this :

Atomic Edition :
eduke32

Carribean.bat :
eduke32 /gaddons\vacation.grp

DC.bat :
eduke32 /gaddons\dukedc.grp

Nwinter.bat
eduke32 /xaddons\nwinter.con /gaddons\nwinter.grp

I never use their shitty substandard port. There's absolutely no reason to.

The Megaton Edition on Steam uses a modified version of JonoF's port. They said they were planning to release further updates to it in the future for multiplayer and possibly other addons.

What artigkar was referring to was the Megaton Edition on Steam, for which you can only run the expansions in the port and not in DOSBox. There is of course nothing stopping you from extracting the files to run in DOSBox or in any port as you say, but natively from the Steam download the expansions are only for the engine port itself.

I had a look at the Steam files myself and noticed that there is a nwdes.con. Shouldn't this be named nwdefs.con? I know the nwinter.con has a line to include nwdefs.con, but that file isn't present. Is it a filename error with the Steam version?

I said this above. Nothing is stopping you from using what exists currently. You don't have to wait until Valve gets on it.

Sadly true. You'd have to go find full copies somewhere that contain the rest of the files needed to run them under DosBOX; namely gamer.exe etc. and you may need a patch from here.

I thought the same, but no. nwinter.con includes files within the .grp itself apparently. Leave it alone, it's fine. It works in eduke32.

Right, this just because very relevant because of the current Steam flash sale - I think I'll grab the Steam version for the expansions but use them with the GOG version and eDuke - that's a summery of the advice here, right?
