I think you can at any time go to the options menu in game and select the easy mode. If you die at any point in the game you also get to select if you want to try again from the last save, from the last save in easy mode or from the last checkpoint.

Whenever you start a new game you are also prompted to select the difficulty you want to play in. It is on Normal Mode by default, but you should be able to select easy mode there as well by going left on your keyboard / gamepad.


In addition to that, just to be more specific, you reach the options part about the game difficulty by pressing escape, then scroll down to Options, then you have to hit Page Up two times and scroll down until you reach the part about game difficulty.

if you play in off line mode then most of the options (hard | easy) don't work... no its not just you

They do work in offline mode, but Hard Mode, and Speedrun Mode, are Main Menu settings, and not a difficulty setting
Game Modes also remakes the game_main.arc file, and maybe others, removing any mods you've merged into it.

Stupid way of going about it, but I suspect Hard Mode, and Speedrun Mode were added after the initial release.

!!! WARNING !!!
You must reapply all mods after changing the Mode, so be sure yoou want it, first.

and then look pretty because there is no way to apply the new settings and pressing [esc] or any other tab will not keep your changes.

p.s, this is a good game but gog ui doesn't work correct.

That's correct. Both Hard Mode and Speedrun Mode were originally DLCs, hence the awkward implementation.

I applied Easy mode at the start of my game, easy enough, and have just switched to Normal Mode, saved setting and restarted, setting was still normal mode.
However you certainly can't hit escape, or Tabs to save settings.
To Save you must use Backspace, and I don't think that keys rebindable, it has no setting in Confg.ini

GOG UI? I assume that's Galaxy rubbish, I only use installers.
UI overlays can often interfere, but in this case I think it's not using Backspace to save the settings.
It's another annoyance, that each tab must be saved separately, and that exits to the main Menu, as well.
It's clunky, but works.

its the [enter] key... I fixed it with a workaround by loading the game onto my laptop and saving that profile.
edit: no you are right and it is the [backspace] key... the ui says its the [enter] key but that is wrong.

anyway guys just be aware that playing the gog game in "off line" mode has pit falls

UI shows an arrow pointing left, the universal Bacskpace symbol.

It's similar to the enter key, but that has an added right angled tail, easy mistake to make though.
