Thanks Razi. I'm not that good with splitting up quotes, but I'll try to answer your questions.

I'm comparing the user experience between the console and PC versions. Agree the differences in technology and platform may mean that the technical implementation of the same user experience would be also different. But from the user experience, I would think that having to follow some peer coordinated sync cycle to have a chance of getting my pawn "rented" counts towards "not working as intended".

I followed Javenpup's initial steps and we both rested in turn after he took my Everlean out for a spin. When I rested, I received no errors and saw the "syncing with server" message and the load bars... It will complete loading and no summary table of my pawn being rented appeared at all. Even though Javen certainly did.

Similarly, there's a pawn Alice that I've used since I started the game with multiple rentals, release, review cycles. But till date Alice still shows up as "unrented" and unreviewed etc.

Seeing only 12 results for the leadershipboard does seem to imply that something has been messed up and a huge part of the GoG community is not enjoying Rift Crystals / Gift / Review aspects of having their pawn rented. Review and ratings is part of every pawn release process... and only 12 players managed to successfully get rated to be ranked.

Cheers!

KopiUncle: I think most of us played DD on the console before. The concept of pawn rental and gifting is pretty simple. My pawn could be hired / released many times in between my hero's resting in an inn, and I'd get the sum of rift crystals across the rental transactions. There was no need to sync resting in inns per transaction. But it isn't happening for many of us on the GoG platform.

Razikale: I wouldn't necessarily take the console version as the baseline for how the game should work and would rather focus on the specific problems you're having now. The console and PC are two very different platforms and they often present very different issues. I've been trying to pinpoint the problem and ran a few tests lately with at least five different people. Resting at the inn (for both players) did trigger pawn synchronization for us and allowed us to receive gifts. If this is not solving the issue for you please let us know.
avatar
KopiUncle: Jayvenpup is the ONLY one on my friend list that has managed to get his pawn rental transaction successfully recognised through his testing of sleep sync-ing between players. I tested briefly with him and did not succeed.
avatar
Razikale: Can you elaborate on how you did not succeed? Was there an error during synchronization or just nothing happened? Did you wait a bit for the gifts to arrive? Did you both rest at the inn?

avatar
KopiUncle: I did a "Top Ranked This Month" search and Jayvenpup topped the list, but of greater interest is that the total number of hits was only 12! I.e. only 12 players in the GoG community managed to successfully complete pawn rental through some weird combination of actions / conditions that is far from simple in the past month!
avatar
Razikale: I'm not sure if those two issues are connected but I am monitoring the leaderboards nevertheless. As far as I am aware the search shows top 12 results so I wouldn't necessarily say only 12 players successfully completed pawn rentals. We are, of course, still investigating though.
avatar
Jayvenpup: Since my wife and I successfully at one point did the gifting/RC receiving, I've sent both of our updated save files to QA which they will look into that.

Aside from that, I did say I'd try to test more but realised that I'm on autopilot playing now while thinking on the 'how' and 'why' of the issue. I think I need to take a step back and let them handle it now as otherwise I may burn out during play.
Yes, please play the game. You've done plentiful, especially sparking this thread to life. Let's see how QA and maybe Capcom follow up on this.

Dear All,

Just a quick update: Javenpup was nice enough to send over his savegames after successfully receiving gifts and the save does show that the pawn was rented a total of three times even though before the values were blank.

Due to this I'd recommend trying to turn off your firewall/antivirus for a second to see if this might solve some issues. From personal experience I can say that sometimes antiviruses can misinterpret things related to games as harmful and block them. That way we can rule it out as potential culprit.

We're still looking into this. I know this is frustrating but I kindly ask you to be patient. Such problems are notoriously difficult to pinpoint as there are a lot of variables to keep in mind.

The game was already permitted through my firewall, but just to test I turned it off and still nothing :( (Using Windows Defender, no other anti-virus stuff)
No change here. Averest has tried gifting to my pawn tonight and nothing received on my end (yet).

EDIT: This was while I had firewall/antivirus turned off as well.

Same here. No firewall and only default windows security tools, pawn problems and general bad networking performance persist.

Samex2, no firewall on my side active. Still getting connection issues constantly :(
Same here as everyone else, I've been playing since the start without a firewall and the game's whitelisted on my antivirus, but the rent system is still broken.

I'm posting again to add to the confirmations that turning off the firewall and antivirus did not alleviate the issue. It's good to see the GOG team now getting involved because now that I'm on Bitterblack, the RC famine is getting too real. Haha.
I also tried the QA method of resting from both parties after gift/release with Marrra to no avail. We haven't tried our method since I posted it as been trying to play and not thinking on testing so much (hard for my analytical mind)

True that, gog team always seem to really care about getting you an answer. Hopefully they get figure it out.
DD:DA is on discount on Steam... Dang. I'm tempted to buy it but... That'll mean I bought the same game 4 times! Twice on PS3 (played to lv180+ and went for a long overseas posting where I bought another PS3 + PSN copy) and twice on PC (GoG & Steam).

Goshhh.. I love this game. But it's really sad to see the GoG version bugged.

We owned it twice on the Xbox 360, plus got two copies of Dark Arisen and now 3 copies on GOG.

Wife, son and I are in the same dilemna: Whether to wait and if not fixed in 30 days, get the refund yet miss out on the Steam version on sale till next week (US$12 which unfortunately means ~$4 more than GOG) or we get the copy and may end up with two copies each.
Gosh, I thought I was the only one contemplating getting it again on steam because of the bug. I'll hold out for a bit though. Hopefully, GOG team can come through for us in time.

By the way, I've reached level 123 and for the first time, I feel like it's becoming a grind. Is there a faster way to get xp besides killing the offline Ur-dragon repeatedly?

I'l just hang around a bit longer, if this bug isn't fixed ~5 Jul, I get the Steam version and refund this. I'm also called KopiUncle on Steam. Cheers!

I think that's the fastest way. In my first incarnation, I was a solo assassin with crazy buffed up damage prior Dark Arisen's nerf. That's the fastest build to take down Ur-Dragon then.

The bug is not limited to our version, users on steam are reporting pawn renting issues as well.
